So, today, I had Duchesse De Bourgogne for the first time and I have to admit, holy crap, what an absolutely awesome beer. However, my lack of knowledge of this style and how to pair it other than what Beer Advocate tells me led me to pose the question: does this one or any beers of this style pair with an Easter Ham?
Normally, I'll put up a nice Quad for Easter dinner (and I know its a ways off) but now after having this lovely lady today, I'm quite inquisitive and would love to hear any well-versed BA's that know Flanders Red Ales fairly well.

    Cheers!

Personally, I think a quad like Abt 12 would pair better, but a more oak-forward Flemish red like Rodenbach Grand Cru would be good too. Duchesse is a bit too sweet IMO.

I know it's slightly out of left field, but you might also explore some doppelbocks if you just want a change from the quad.

Hey thanx a ton, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who drinks Quads with Easter dinner. Doppelbocks, hmmm....you have me intrigued, I just make have to check some out.

Look for a Bruery Oud Tart. It's a very oaky forward, has some red wine notes that would pair well.

A Dopple would be a good choice, as would a Belgian Dark Strong Ale, like Unibroue 17 Grande Reserve.

It's one of my favorite styles and I love it with just about any main dish...

If you are going to also have a baked ham consider a wee heavy, they are friggin fantastic with one. I also like a good Belgian dark ale with one (such as Kaizer Bleu Het Anker) or whatever you prefer (quad, Dub etc...)

Thanx, in previous years, I've had 3 Philosophers (Ommegang), and Four (Allagash) and absolutely loved it with Easter dinner. However, where I live now, I can only get the 3 Philosophers which isn't bad, at the same time, I may have been quite enthralled with the "Dutchess" over the weekend that there's a part of me that wouldn't mind seeing if it could go but before shelling out the $19.99 for it for Easter dinner, I was hoping to get some feedback from some BA's seeing if that could happen. I'm starting to think that maybe this Lady may not go as well with an Easter dinner and that maybe I was just too enthralled the other day as the feedback I'm getting seems to lean closer to the sweeter Belgian beers. I see Beer Advocate says that Flanders Red Ales are best with grilling, so I'm looking forward to busting out my grill this summer and seeing what I can do with the Lady then. Thanx a ton!
