Is that similar to a Flemish Oud Bruin? I really enjoy them and several other beers from Flanders. I've heard that Monk's Cafe specializes in Belgium beers. That would explain them having a "Flanders" Oud Bruin.

So, if Oude Tart comes from OC, should we be calling it a Californian Orange Ale?

BA lists the style as a "Flanders Oud Bruin"--being not so familiar with this style I'll default to this website's classification.

Sorry Dave, I've no idea what Oude Tart is and am guessing OC means Orange County so I'm missing the humor/point of your post.

Lots of good suggestions on here.
    Cuvee de Jacobins
    Duchesse
    Monk's Cafe
    Oude Tart
    La Roja from Jolly Pumpkin
    Rodenbach Grand Cru

Also, not Flanders, but try some Berliner Weisse styles, they are tart, but not nearly what a Lambic would be. Petrus makes some good mildly sour, easily found beers. Aged Pale is my favor, but Oud Bruin is good as well as the rest.

I can drink lambic and gueuze without issue, but if you have issues, you will have issues with flanders red as well since they are also very acidic.

Those names were chosen by the bros. While they are very knowledgeable re: beer, many on this site have equal or even greater background. While I respect their opinions, I don't defer to them as the ultimate authorities on all beer matters. In this case they were mistaken.

Nor do I, I was just too lazy to go anywhere else to look up a beer classification. Sorry if I offended. But I stand by that beer by Monk's Cafe as being reasonably priced and decent tasting

Re: OP's question on different yeast strains - A defining note in Flanders Reds & Oud Bruins is their vinegar-like quality, created by acetobacter, the bacteria that convert ethanol to acetic acid & responsible for making vinegar. Most wine drinkers would say that Flanders Reds just taste like spoiled wine. A lot of lambics also have an acetic quality, but it's kind of a centerpoint in the Flanders sours.

Duchess de Bourgogne is a great introduction to the style. Not overwhelmingly sour but really good and easily available.

Cool thanks for the info. Not exactly my cup of tea still but interesting to learn about them.
