I recently brought home some flip top 750s from my Tree House visit but I've yet to come across anywhere that will fill it back home other than some random grocers due to the small opening. I know it's not a huge difference compared to a half growler when your talking ounces but the 750 just seems like the perfect size to finish solo if you need to. I also love the flip / swing top on it. I haven't come across any half growlers with swing tops locally yet as they all seem to be screw top. Does anyone know of any breweries that sell swing top half growlers and if so do they have normal sized openings or are they still smaller? I would love to find a nice brewery branded one if anyone has suggestions.
Other breweries have the same flip top 750s like Hill Farmstead. I actually brought mine last Friday down to Carton and they filled it with no issues. I haven't had any issues with filling them in the past either.
They seem to be unique to some areas. I'm in OH and I've yet to come across any brewery that will fill them. I've been searching high and low for some nice brewery branded ones and so far the only two I have come up with are: Sierra Nevada Stone Neither of these provide the measurements of the mouth opening but I'm assuming they are standard sized and not smaller like the 750s.
I've seen stainless growlers in 32oz format with a swing top and a more standard opening. Can't think of a brewery that carries them.
http://www.miir.com/howler and http://portlandgrowlercompany.com/collections/32-oz have full size mouths, but I couldn't find info on any Ohio breweries that use them. They're both NW companies so I don't know how familiar they are in Ohio, but you might try contacting them to see which breweries have ordered from them. Or you could just slap on a sticker from your favorite brewery.
I have a number of 32 oz. swing top growlers that I got at Breweries. Stone, Tired Hands, Funky Buddha and Kane to name a few sell them online. They do have the smaller opening but just about all the places I fill growlers at will fill them. I also just picked up a nice 32 oz. stainless steel growler at Societe with the wide mouth top. I do not think they sell this online but you can try calling the brewery.
These guys make custom swing top 32 oz growlers that appeared to have normal size openings: http://goosecreekgrowlers.com/ I do not have one but I stopped by there on vacation earlier this month.
I have a bunch of those 32oz growlers that are the same as the Sierra one you posted. The mouth is smaller than a regular screw top growler; its also smaller than the opening of a 64oz swing top growler. I got them at places in Columbus. I'm pretty sure one of them is from Weilands. I don't remember where the others are from as I haven't gotten a new growler in years. Isn't having more than a couple missing the point of a growler anyway?
