Never heard of SCTV either. I recognize many of the names listed by Wikipedia, but never knew of their background. I was living in the Cleveland area during the time frame that Wiki mentions, but I never made any connection to SCTV. Edit: I was never a late night TV watcher either and I suspect that's the missing link.
Oh, it was a bigger phenomenon than TV. I think you were distracted by something else in those days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_Brew
With Hefeweizen we did it a different way: Hold the glass at 45 degrees, now hold the bottle at the bottom and put it in the glass. At the beginning you have a lot of foam but when the beer feaches the bottleneck the foam will be sucked in. Then lift the bottle slowly up until its empty. Roll the nearly empty bottle a bit and fill up the glass with the rest of the Hefe PROST!
You forgot the important part about cleaning the bottle well before letting it contaminate the beer. I saw bartenders do that trick back in the '80s -- without cleaning off the bottles.
Anything other than hefe’s is a hard no for me. I also don’t drink hazy ipas though because they are an abomination.
OK, I saw a few SCTV episodes way back in the day on my local PBS station but missed the Great White North skits. I'd heard terrible things about, "Strange Brew" & thought, "How bad can it really be?" 2025 was already the crappiest year of my life in the last decade or so. Watching all 90 minutes of this shit just put a bow & a capper on it. EASILY shoots up into my top 10 & probably my top 5 'worst, dumbest, stupidest, unbelievably un-funny & mind-numbingly boring movies of all time'. That'll be the last time I don't listen to my gut feeling. (good thing I cracked that 2024 Goose Island Bardstown Cask bottle earlier) Fuck 2025 INDEED!
Sorry to hear 2025 was so rough. And yup, terrible movie, I only saw bits of it. Maybe give Super Troopers a shot. Don’t bother with the sequels or Beerfest. Good luck in 2026.
"Strange Brew" was so bad.......(how bad WAS it?)..... This movie was so bad, if it was a beer, I'd say it was swill so terrible it wasn't even strong enough to use as drain cleaner. Onto the compost pile! Hell, ANY episode of SCTV or Red Green would've had me in stitches compared to the 90 minutes of my life I want back. Not touching Super Troopers or Beerfest either. I know when to quit when I'm ahead......like rewatching Casablanca for the umpteenth time to cleanse my palate & remind me of what an excellent, entertaining movie experience really is like.
ok, now that’s like comparing Westvleteren 12 to Killians Red (which was pretty good when we didn’t know better).
