I just installed the Floatit 2.0 dip tube that I got from ebay. The tube just slips over the post up top and the float at the bottom. I made sure to keep the tube and part it’s connecting to dry but I’m worried that when I purged my keg after transferring from fermenter I could have blown the dip tube off. I should test to see if I can draw some sample but is it a bad idea to use a floating dip tube without using something to clamp the tube down at both ends? I didn’t see any clamps come with the dip tube and being a novice I assumed it would be ok as is.
I regularly ferment in 6 gallon kegs with a floating dip tube. I've only had the tube slip off one time and that was when I aggressively agitated the keg to oxygenate (I've since moved to pure O2). I don't think clamps are necessary, but it would be good to just check the tube inside the keg before use.
I have never had a floating dip tube come off during purging. Keep in mind that when you apply pressure in the keg, it's "felt" by the tube from all possible directions at the same time.
Thanks. I was a little too light on tightening the liquid out post and saw small amount of liquid leaking out which is probably a good indicator that the dip tube is still attached considering the 5 gallon keg has just under 4 gallons in it. Retightened within 20 min so no more leak
Happened to me twice and incredibly frustrating as I do all I can to avoid cold side oxygen exposure. I've since installed ss worm clamps to hold the tube in place and have had no issues.
