Do a little yelp search and see if you can find any places that allow BYOB?

BYOB is not allowed in Grand Rapids

That is so odd to me. Bottle-sharing is encouraged most places down here! In fact, a group of us do a huge bottle-sharing every Sunday @ Green Room in Jacksonville!

I know, I know...but my focus is really the different venues in Grand Rapids that I want to visit.

That would be awesome...since around here the only issue I see with getting together to bottle share is finding a host! I could see myself bottle sharing once a week!

That is so odd! (no byob restaurants)
That said, there aren't all that many smaller metro areas with as great of an immediate tap list available as Grand Rapids, so it's not a huge problem... but man, what a needless rule.

BTW bryan - if you get a chance to steal any of GRBrew's homebrew, it is highly recommended.

Final results from trip! First off, thanks for all the tips guys...I can see why Grand Rapids/Michigan gets so much attention in the craft beer world....because damn I had fun. Here are the places I went:

    1. Sicilianos - directly left the airport and this was my first stop out of town on my way to Beulah. Awesome bottle shop and the guy was super helpful and gave me a tour of the store when I told him I came here from FL. Dropped $100 and got a free glass. Beer to drink by the lake...check.

    2. 7 Monks Cafe - Traverse City. Great selection, beautiful on the inside, super friendly server and great food. Loved it.

    3. Jolly Pumpkin Old Mission. Not what I was expecting at all...in a good way. Beautiful area, wine country, kind of had a Cali feel to it. Went through the whole line-up and had some truffle fries and crad tater tots. Bartender was hot. Loved it.

    4. Brewery Vivant. Wow, might have been my fave...thanks for the tip on this one. Went through the line-up, took the tour and ate the Duck Confit Nachos...seriously?! Not to mention the cool 'churchish' atmosphere and awesome staff.

    5. HopCat. My favorite. Went on Saturday night and liked it so much, went back Sunday:slight_smile: Again, awesome staff, ridiculous food, and I was able to go through a lot of local stuff including all HopCat beers, all Shorts they had on draft, and other random locals.

    6. Founders. Met a pretty cool chick at HopCat on Sunday that joined me over @ Founders. Founders was huge, but still kind of kept that small bar feel to it. Had a great line-up and I got to try a bunch I hadn't had already. Heard there food is good, but was already stuffed from HopCat.

Overall...can't wait to go back! I can see why Michigan beer drinkers are so proud of their state. Top notch in beer, venues, and food. I think I came home with about 10 bottles/cans, 12 t-shirts, and about 4 various glasses:slight_smile:

    Cheers!

    Bryan

Not allowed in our state due to the state laws. I was surprised that you can do this in FL. Is it legal, or are you just flying under the radar?

Edit - glad you had a good time in MI.

We actually have distributors that will bottle-share their personal stashes, so I'm assuming it is not illegal.
