So I live in Columbia, MO and my roommates are heading to Gainesville for the Mizzou @ Florida game. I'm going to have them bring me some beer back but I was wondering what I should have them look for. They aren't big beer guys so I'm just going to tell them to look for a few breweries and grab whatever. I've heard Florida can get breweries such as Ballast Point, Sixpoint, Victory, and obviously Cigar City. I was wondering how available these are and which ones they might be able to find fairly easily? Do you think they'll be able to find just some standards from these guys, and what else should I have them look for? Thanks and Cheers!
This might help... http://www.seekabrew.com/distro/index.html I was in FL over the summer and was surprised how much CA beer was out there. As for the FL stuff, in Gainesville Swaphead is pretty decent (not sure what they bottle) and also if they run across Funky Buddah they make good stuff as well.....
Yeah I was looking through seekabrew but I know it doesn't always mean you can find everything listed. Ive heard swamphead is good though. Ill tell them to check it out. Thanks man
Sixpoint resin, the crisp and sweet action readily available. Victory Dirt Wolf and others available. Ballast point Sculpin and others. Swamp Head is local to Gainesville. Funky Buddha about 300 miles away and still only doing limited special release bottling for now. Happy Hunting!
Gainesville is actually really craft beer friendly and you can get all of the breweries you mentioned and many more. The best place in Gainesville to buy a wide range of craft beer is a place called Tipples Brews. They always have a few different selections from ballast point, six point, and victory. Swamphead is also a great local brewery. They bottle special releases and can one of their beers. I have never had anything bad from them. Visit swamphead.com to see their currently available selection of bottles. Good Luck!
you will definitely see ballast point, victory, and sixpoint in gainesville. Cigar city regulars are abundant, so even in grocery stores (Publix) and chain liquor stores (ABCs) you will find Jai alai, invasion, maduro, etc. you'll also find some bruery stuff if you go to the store mentioned above, Tipples. tipples has a pretty good selection of stuff, you'll find CCB, swamphead, sweetwater, and terrapin there too. currently, swamphead has some pretty good bottles in their cooler like saison du swamp, 10-10-10, and they probably still have some of their fresh hop ale, gainesville green (two diff types w/different hops). if your roommates get in early enough tomorrow, they should visit swamphead for their football friday event where they normally have food trucks, music, and pouring stations outside. also, if your roommates want to meet up for a tailgate, message me and let me know. i'll be there too, the more the merrier!
have your buddies hit up 4 places while in gainesville. 1. Tipples brews: they will have a great selection of florida beers, as well as sometimes get some good stuff in on fridays. they have a facebook page, but i have seen them get selections of cantillon in, good prairie, 3F, and a lot of the limited CCB stuff (not much available right now though). they do growler fills as well. it is also not far from the interstate on the way into town. 2. Gator Beverage: this is a whole in the wall but somehow get some of the best beer in town (similar as tipples). it is only 2 blocks from campus (northeast). looks like a gas station but i have stumbled upon great beers in there. 3. Swamphead: really cool tap room called the wetlands and as someone else posted, they have had some good beers available recently. right off the interstate but check their hours as they are somewhat weird hours (as far as i remember). 4. First Magntitude: this brewery just opened up last month and is supposed to have some great beer. i have had their pale ale in growlers and it was pretty good. seems to always be packed when my buddy is in there. hopefully they can come back withs oem florida goodies. i wish i were goign to the game. came down with enterovirus and am just now getting back on my feet, so a long day/night doesnt seem too smart of a move for me. i'll be wathching it out of te comfort of my home. but should be great weather, and with the state of florida football, your buddies should not get a whole ton of grief from the gator fans. let me know what they score for you upon their return!
Make sure they check the dates if they're buying IPA's. Sometimes the out of state stuff can be pretty old. They won't find funky buddha unless it's a growler and I don't THINK funky has made it to gainesville yet. We get founders, bells, fat heads, six point, anchor, stone, lagunitas, ballast point, boulevard, bear republic, mission. FL brews most likely available that I recommend would be intuition i-10 ipa out of jax, ccb jai alai, maduro brown. Possibly but probably not available cubano espresso, big sound, zhukov, good gourd, white oak jai alai. Swamphead might have some decent bombers for sale at the tasting room but I have yet to be blown away by their beer, it's solid though. Have drank a lot of big nose ipa.
with the recent release of cubano espresso, i would imagine tipples could get a shipment in tomorrow.
