A friend of mine is traveling to Florida in early July, what are some good beers to have them bring back to Illinois? Already have them on the look out for Cigar City year rounds. Is their Cucumber Saison still around? What other beers should I have them look for? Thanks for any suggestions.
Anything CCB is a solid bet. Also it looks like Terrapin doesn't normally distribute to Illinois, I like most everything they make (especially Mosaic). Also Sweetwater brewing makes some really good stuff. Those are Georgia beers but should be easy to find in Florida and worth trying for sure. Cheers.
They will be in Port Charlotte, flying into Tampa. They will be there for a week and have plenty of time, so anywhere in that area is in play.
Cucumber Saison is still around and goes for about $10.99 a bomber. I just bought one 3 days ago. I don't know of any other CCB seasonals out right now.
Marshal Zhukov RIS may be out by July... not sure their timeframe, but it is in the Brite Tanks now. I think it was supposed to be July release (750 mL)
Cubano Espresso is out (4 pk 12 oz bottles). That is pretty good too. Homefront IPA is still available, but not at the brewery (total wine and whole foods have it)
Other Florida beers. Tampa Bay Brewing Co. Old Elephant IPA in 16 oz. cans, Saint Somewhere, all good, but see if your friend can get a bottle of Serge, newest limited release. You can find Intuition Ale cans from Jacksonville in some places. If growlers are a possibility ... lots of places. Besides Tampa Bay Brewing and Cigar City (Cigar City Brewpub now serves growlers), there's Barley Mow, Big Storm, Rapp, and others that I can't remember off the top of my head.
Mr Beerys in Sarasota (45min-1hr north of pt Charlotte) Still has Homefront. ABC in Venice has 750ml bottles of Cucumber Saison for 9.49ea. I'm sure other ABC's have the cucumber Saison also, there should be one in pt Charlotte too I believe
I was at the Port Charlotte ABC this past weekend and they didn't have and of the Cucumber at the time.
Does pegs growler everything they have or only a small selection? just curious. They have so many things I want to try, but its a little out of the way for me (zephyrhills)
Not everything, but a reasonable amount. But sit, chill, eat and enjoy. Such a wonderful beer destination - it's more then worth the trip.
From what I remember, Peg's only does growlers during certain times of the day. Not sure if this is still policy.
