My roommate is going on vacation to Florida in a few weeks, told her I wanted her to grab me some beer while shes there, what should I have her be on the lookout for?
You should post in the SA subforum. Tequesta Brewing Growlers are really good. Near Odessa, Big Storm is awesome, growlers there too. Get Arcus IPA it's awesome. Funky Buddha Oakland Park as said above offers growers. Special ones on Tuesday. Rapp Brewing in Seminole is astounding and offers growlers. Cigar City of course, they have special growlers on Tuesday. Cigar City Brewpub is separate and they sell growlers of different beer. Peanut Allergy is awesome. Cycle brewing is up north too, growlers of greatness. Cocoa Beach Brewery my cousin goes to, says they have good stuff. Never been. Due South in Boynton Beach has solid beer, not amazing but pretty good. They have cans too, get Cat 5 if you like IPAs. Citra IPA I believe. Wynwood in Miami makes solid stuff, not sure if they growler or not. Tampa Bay Brewing Company is ok, they have one up north and one down south in Coral Springs. Bottle shops to check are Luekens Liquors, ABC (depends on area if good selection), Crown (same as ABC), Total Wine and More, Knightly Spirits, Coffee District (bar so it's pricey but they let you take home bottles), Davie's Discount Liquors. Florida is pretty big, but I listed from all around the state.
It takes around 12 hours to drive from one end of the state to the other...so where in FL would help. And yes, the South - Atlantic forum should get you there quicker.
Where in FL? In the past few years I've lived in the Tampa area, Ft Myers/Naples area and now Ft Lauderdale. Really depends on where in FL she going.
Cigar City - Jai Alai of course and Tocobaga Red Ale are fantastic. Around Fort Lauderdale, Funky Buddha - MAPLE BACON COFFEE PORTER and also NO CRUSTS - YUM
Three thumbs up on the Jai Alai and Tocobaga Red Ale! Last time down there picked up Jai Alai in cans (easy to pack for the trip back North). Only found Tocobaga in bottles.
I was down there in November and they said they were really close to canning Tocobaga... hasn't happened yet? I hope they do, agree with you on making it easy to pack and transport. Makes checking luggage worthwhile.
you know, I never asked where. I'll find out with an exact location. She's flying, so bringing a ton back isn't an option. I guess I never thought Florida might have had different distribution practices as we do here, if you can get it in Michigan, it's available all over the state. I was thinking anything in bottles, no growlers unfortunately, that was something good, unique, etc to Florida that she could easily bring back. I'll check for a city and report back! thanks for the input so far.
