Heading to the middle Keys near Marathon for spring break. Flying into Fort Lauderdale. Right now it seems like my best option for some beers for the hotel room is to stop at the Fort Laud. Total Wine coming out of the airport.

Am I right, or is there a good shop I'm unaware of between the airport and the Seven Mile Bridge?

That or one of the Miami Total Wine locations are probably your best bet. Not much storewise for beer in the Keys.

Yeah the Miami Total Wine in North Miami is probably the easiest to get to. It is just a few minutes off of Exit 12B I believe on I95. Hope that helps.

    Hi Ron-

I just returned from a similar trip-flew into Miami and drove to Marathon for a few days, then back to Miami beach for a few. Total wine and Whole foods are your best bets. Make sure you get enough to bring with you- there is not much once you leave the mainland.

If you are flying into Fort Lauderdale, I would stop at the Total Wine just 5 minutes from there. Once you get on the road to head towards the Keys (take I-95 to Florida's Turnpike towards Homestead), there won't be any place close by to stop off at. You can pick up cans of Cigar City, which would be perfect for walking around Key West.

If you go down to Key West hit up The Porch and Krawl off Duval, Cork and Stogie was pretty cool and had a nice selection of bottles. There is one random kitchen store on Key West that has a very small craft selection but take everything you need before you go. Depending on what time you fly into Ft Lauderdale drive up to Funky Buddha! Only 30 minutes out of your way and they don't open til 5 during the week and 6 on the weekend, but well worth the trip! You gotta do it otherwise I'll have to smack you!

I lived in the Keys for a short time and finding craft beer is tough. If you go to Publix or Winn Dixie (grocery stores) they usually have CCB cans, Jai Alai and Maduro Brown. Sometimes they also have Hotter than Helles Lager and Florida Cracker, but those vary from store to store.

I kjnow you said Marathon, but Key West is only a 2 hour drive and worth the trip. If you go, there is a Publix on Roosevelt as you come into the island. Make a right at the light when you hit Key West, and it will be a couple miles down on your left. That is your best bet once you are in KW. As for bars, the only place with a decent selection is the Tap Room behind Sloppy Joes (its actually part of Sloppy Joes, but has a side entrance on the cross street). On Big Pine Key, you can find the No Name Pub, which is next to the brisge to No Name Key. They make a decent Amber ale there and phenomenal pizza. Also, if you like to fish, that bridge is the best structure fishing in all the keys and mostly locals only know about it. You will also need to GPS that thing, because it is not easy to find.

Also note that this info is about a year and half old, I haven't been back in a while.

Thanks for all the help all.

Looks like Total Wine, Fort Lauderdale will be stop one.

Not sure if we will make Key West this year, but if we do it won't be until Wednesday of our Monday-Friday stay. Last time we were down there I found a pleasant helpful store with an ok selection on the outskirts of KW. But I 'll need beer on Monday, so Total Wine it is.

The total wine in North Miami is the best but you can actually just walk into any Publix and find CCB Jai Alai and Maduro Brown as well as some other goodies so it depends what you are looking for. i don't know the Keys well but if you have any time in Lauderdale be sure to check out Laser Wolf and American Social. Have fun!!!
