I will be passing through the panhandle area in mid April and camping at either Grayton Beach State Park or Fort Pickens State Park (Henderson Beach is booked up the date I will be there). I have a few questions.....which location of the two will offer the best craft beer options around (bar and/or shop)? Also, If you have been to either state park, which one has the prettiest beach. Is there another location that you would recommend (in the same general area) for both camping and beer options? Cheers!!
I think the beaches are equally the same. Grayton will probably be your best option for shops/bars but you'll have to drive 30 minutes to Destin. There, you'll find Chan's Wine World and ABC for shops and The Craft Bar (next to Wine World) and WOB for bars. A little closer to the park is Grayton Beer Company (brewery) and Modica Market (shop).
Thank you for the help and info. I went with Grayton Beach State Park. Apparently the beach is consistently rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the US.
Grayton beach is awesome that's a great choice. Also, The Craft Bar is supposed to open right there in Grayton sometime in March, so that would be a good place to drink excellent beer even if no package available.
When I first read the title of this thread, I thought it was about downtown St. Petersburg! *You'll get the joke if you've ever walked around downtown St. Pete.
As a local I wholeheartedly recommend Craft Bar across from Destin Commons...good food and a nice draft list with just the right amount of taps so the beer sells fast enough to stay fresh as opposed to World of Beer across the street which has too many taps so they don't sell any of them quick enough so they all end up flat and/or lost their taste...as for bottle shops Chans next door has a good beer guy in Randy, but they just throw the beer everywhere in the store with no real design so it's kind of a mess to shop there...also they have a lot of REALLY old stock there....I much prefer Beach Liquors in Destin as they are much more organized..also have a nice selection and seem to have less dusty bottles....they also have a Growler Station with 12-15 taps with lots of Florida Stuff...as for local breweries Grayton Beer is crap...Pensacola Bay is swill....Idyll Hounds makes a decent DIPA and have not heard anything about the new Destin Brewery...if you are willing to make the drive to Fort Walton Beach Props makes their own beer and the quality has gotten better since they hired a new brewer and they make surprisingly good food....it's a great area..enjoy
We stay in Grayton Beach every year and Beach Liquors is news to me - thanks much. I typically stock up at Chan's at the beginning of the week. Is Beach Liquors worth the 10 minutes? any update on the Craft Bar opening in Grayton? I couldn't find much of anything
Hell yeah!!! Im sure it won't be around when i arrive wednesday but at least the bar opened in time. Thank you for the update!!
