From http://blog.barvolo.com/ I'll be there. Anyone else plan on going? I'm particularly intrigued by The Ascension and the House Alse collaborations.
I'm curious about the Rye of the Tiger and Ascension. Rye/oat saison definitely sounds interesting. See you guys there.
I recently had Atomic Smashbomb IPA, it was my first flying monkeys beer. I liked it, it didn't focus on hop bitterness nearly as much as it had a nice pleasant floral quality to it.
I'll probably make it there around 7. I might try to grab a table if there are any available. If anyone wants to join me let me know in here or shoot me a BM so I know how many seats to get, otherwise I'll probably be hanging out by the bar. Look for the guy that looks like my avatar. I'm not hard to spot!
I get a tear in my eye when I think of this as a proud ex pat Barrieite. Would love to hear what you thought Creetoper.
It was good. The place was packed as Volo usually is for these types of events but the beers were quite good. I had the following: Ryezin' Up: unflitered, full bodied, spicy, slightly bitter, a very interesting take on a saison Imperial Oatmeal Stout: rich, malty, roasty, slightly sweet, slightly boozey but not too much, my favourite of the night Romoolus: roasty and slightly dry but still hanging onto a touch of the sweetness that you'd expect from a milk stout. Very light bodied. Genius of Suburbia (labelled Stereovision at the event): a very drinkable american wheat ale Galaxy Smash (on cask): unfiltered, light with an emphasis on citrus notes, low on bitterness, not amazing, but not bad I was disappointed to find that The Ascension had kicked before I got there as that was one of the brews I was most looking forward to trying. I guess I had the same idea as everyone else. Overall it was worth the trip and a very good first experience with Flying Monkeys brews. I'll be grabbing their off-the-shelf offerings soon as I haven't tried them yet.
Thanks for that Creetoper. Imperial Oatmeal Stouts seem to be the ultimate in trendy these days. Wonder how it would compare to the Rooie Dop Double Oatmeal Stout I've been itching to open.
