After flying a couple dozen times with beer, I just had problem come up with Southwest Airlines. When I went to check a 12 bottle styro wine shipper(wrapped in a duffel bag) I was asked what it was and told them it was beer. They ask to inspect it and told me that it was not sufficiently packed! Southwest cited a policy that requires bottles of alcohol to be individually wrapped in padded/leak proof packages. I was forced to buy multiple inflatable wine bags to the tune of $5 per bottle. After everything was repackaged, they then made me sign a waiver for any damage to the bottles I just paid to protect! I was told this policy was just for alcohol and that wrapping the entire shipper in a leakproof bag is not a workaround. They said its to 'protect other people's bags from getting leaked on". For some reason alcohol has a tendency to leak more than say, a bottle of juice or hot sauce?? Anyone else have this come up with other airlines?
Anymore it seems that if you MUST try and get some bottles home it would be wiser and cheaper to just box them up and send them through FedEx (Ink samples)
Please run a topic search in this forum for this question. It's one that comes up on a VERY regular basis. http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...added-scrutiny-or-restrictions-coming.355346/
