So, I am experiencing a very frustrating problem with lots of foamy head. The weird thing is my beer is flat. I currently have a half barrel of Epic Brewing's Escape to Colorado IPA. I have my co2 pressure set at 8 psi, and that seemed to work okay for awhile. Here's where it gets wierd- if I vent some pressure from the keg and let it build back up I get near perfect pours. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
How long is your liquid line? Also have you turned the pressure down to 4 or 6? Your psi gauge probably sucks like mine does and doesn't read correctly at all. The first pour after 30 minutes or so of no action out of my keezer is foamy with the exception of big stouts like bcbs. Is it just the first pour or all pours?
This would be my first question too. I don't have any sort of fan blowing cold air up into my draft tower. Therefore my first pour is always fairly foamy because the beer sitting in the lin up in the tower isn't as cold. Maybe this is the issue, OP?
Here are my thoughts from experience with my homebrew kegerator using a corny keg system, so your result may vary: 1) 8 psi seems a little on the low side? I usually keep mine between 10-12 psi. 2) Have you check for leaks in your system? A good trick for this is to mix up some dish soap and water, and drip the liquid onto all your fittings and connections. If small bubbles appear then you have a leak. 3) Are your keg lines long enough? All systems are different and may require different lengths, but 10 feet is usually a good rule of thumb.
Could it be the altitude? My only other suggestion is to ask the question on a larger forum, like BeerTalk.
