not to call out the author of this article, but he refers to the red stars around revolution as being "communist red stars." You'd think the guy at the New York Times would notice a chicago flag between Midway and Revolution brewing. Also Rev brewing is into socialism (eugene v. debs), not communism.

there are so many things about this article to tear apart that it makes me feel bad for the writer. Dude did not even go to the fest:confused:

You know there's a problem when he indicates in the first sentence that he exited the Blue Line at the Logan Square stop, 5 blocks away from Revolution, for his first destination. Umm, Rev is directly across from the California stop. Check yo CTA map first, dude.

Well, he could have been avoiding the yuppie shit storm at the brewpub and hitting up the taproom... which means he should have gotten off at Belmont.

And as I found out the hard way last Wednesday on my way to Revolution, the stop at California is under construction and the train keeps going right past it!

I'm relatively certain he was at the pub, given that he was talking about the barrels being stored in the basement. Not sure that would apply to the production facility.

Also, you can avoid the purported yuppie shit storm if you go to the pub during the week. I normally don't have any particular trouble. Weekends can be another story during prime hours, obviously.

Ha ha, true. My impression was the author visited before the station was closed.

definitely, he's talking about FOBAB 2013.

Here's to FOBAB 2014 with more brewers, more beers, more FOBAB-y

like if the author got to go, he might actually be able to talk to some of the brewers.

I've been during the week, and it's variable levels of crowded. I've seen lunch rushes there that defy expectation.

The better play is to grab some Pork Shoppe and head over to the tap room.

That is definitely a strong play. I live walking distance from the pub, so that's my go-to place. It can definitely get unruly, but you start to get a feel for what is a safer bet. Brunch is the best. The place is empty for the first hour or so it is open.

Ahh... stumbling distance makes a strong case.

I imagine being Sunday brunch being relatively calm until people wake up and decide to hair of the dog their hangovers away...

Laffler always has a gander of groupies with him. The best chance to say hello is when he goes for the water jugs.

As we are now less than a month away from our beloved festival, I wanted to bump this thread. As far as I know the list of participating brewers is yet to be released. I do want to say I'm really hoping Pipeworks will be participating and I anticipate if they do, they'll be walking away with some kind of award. Pipeworks recent efforts in barrel-aging have been nothing short of great. Just look at a bunch of their recent releases and you'll notice they've really fine-tuned the craft when it comes to barrel-aging. In a few short weeks we shall find out!!

P.S. Who are you guys looking forward to? Predictions?

If anyone is still looking for good beer and food around UIC Pavillion for FOBAB there is a new bbq place that opened up called Moxee (http://www.moxeerestaurant.com/) that is serving up beers from Mad Mouse Brewery:

Mad Mouse is a small, experimental brewery that concocts unique specialty ales in 3.5 barrel batches. Our recipes have been developed over the last three years in our Michigan brew lab by our resident brewer, Phil Zelewsky. Come on in and try some!
