Has anyone heard of any cool events taking place around town for FOBAB weekend?

Good call! Have you ever been? I'm wondering how crazy it gets there.

It's a little busy, but I usually get there pretty late in the evening. I believe a friend told me it was pretty busy around 6ish last year. In all honestly, aside from their Lions and Tigers and Beers event, it's never been crazy busy for any functions I've been there for (but I emphasize I usually get there later in the evening).

Haymarket had 5 or 6 different Barrel Aged beers on tap all weekend last year if memory serves. I took the Halsted bus up there after the Saturday night session. I remember ordering a Clare's Thirsty Ale and a pizza. They were out of pizza, but not beer. The rest is a blur...

    Hey guys,

This is my first year to FOBAB and I know we get 20 beer tickets but what I'm wondering is: Does any beer at Fobab only cost 1 ticket? Or do some beers require 2 or 3 tickets per sample?

    Thanks in advance

One ticket per pour... many of them don't even ask you for a ticket. In the past you could buy more tickets relatively cheap also, but honestly I've never had to.

Yeah, I actively offered my tickets a bunch of times, and even so, last year I probably had 5 or 6 tickets leftover (and we had 15 last year). 20 should be more than enough; I think the only place that was really consistent with taking tickets was Goose Island's huge stand, and for good reason.

My experience was you're drunk and your palate is shot by like pour 10, and at that point you're just tired of waiting in lines and wandering around trying the weird outliers because the "whalez" are all kicked

Oddly enough, I don't remember them taking tickets. At the time, I thought it was because most of what they were pouring at the stand wasn't actually in the competition (hence the no-line Vanilla Rye and BCBW tables).

It's very possible that I completely reversed my memories of that evening, given the fact that I skipped dinner and went straight to 2 hours of stout-drinking that Friday night!

So let me rephrase: Either GI was really consistent taking tickets, or they were really inconsistent with taking tickets. And the other participants were also both one or the other, and I was either drunk or sober the entire time.

    Sound about right

After the IMBIBE hour, I remember the tables being pretty consistent on taking tickets. I kinda remember hearing an announcement over the volunteer radios telling them to start taking tickets around 6...

Yeah, I got there right at 6 (not an Imbibe guy), so that would explain the weirdly inconsistent ticket-taking.

the people filling at the BCBBW randalled through coffee station didn't seem to be taking tickets. and then if you just stood in front of the bourbon county pouring station they would just keep refilling you.

goose i never saw taking tickets really, they just wanted to move the line along. the only people i really saw actually taking tickets were the "whalez" like BA abraxas. all the smaller stands it seemed like they didnt care as much, especially as it got later in the evening.
