Maybe it's because they don't can their offerings but I don't get the lack of love (ISO) for this Vermont brewer. Fair Maiden and Po8 are world class IMHO and, although I've not yet tried them, I understand that Parley & Prospect as just as good if not better.

i agree! i'm a big fan of citrennial and session, and obviously fair maiden and pieces are both fantastic. I really like what theyve been putting out.

Fair Maiden is a really solid beer. I have no idea why this sits on the shelves in Massachusetts. Also, I loved Citrennial when I bought it in VT back in July. I think that this brewery is supremely underrated. If they were in any other state, they might have the best IPAs. Wish they didn't charge 10 bucks for a bottle of there beer though.

I loved Fair Maiden the first time I had it. It was a swing top bottle with a sticker that said batch 2. The next time I had it it was in a standard capped bottle and it did not taste much like what I remembered from the first time and I was underwhelmed. I am always on the lookout for their stuff on the strength of that first experience though, I just have bad luck with the timing of the MA drops so I have no recent opinion on what they are putting out.

I agree they are good, I have had Citrennial and and Fair Maiden and waiting for a Po8 that is headed my way that I am excited to try. I think the problem is the price point. Or at least it is for me. The bomber format is just such an expensive way to consume. I have had problems with it when purchasing a lot lately. I feel the same way about Alpine showing up for $8 for 22 ounces. With the canned top notch beers being $3.50-$4 a can, so apple to apples an extra 10 ounces bombers turn into a luxury splurge with my buying habits. Just one mans rant.

I have liked all the beer I have tried from them. And I will buy them when I am out at bars since it seems to be a good value that way. Kind of like buying Maine Beer Company. $7-$8 for a pint is the same price as a bottle, where I can get a bottle of Sculpin for $2.50 at the store so why do I want to buy a $7 draft? Grocery economics I guess. I am probably overthinking it.

Totally agree with you guys, I don't mean to hijack this thread but I didn't want to start a new similar one but what about crop bistro? They seem to get no love as well. I think idletyme and doubletyme are very very good ipas that get no mention, def up there with the big boys

Prospect is an incredible IPA, and by the far the best I've had from Foley Brothers. I found it very similar to and even a little better than MBC Dinner.

Love the guys at Foley and have since before their success with Fair Maiden and Pieces of Eight. The craft beer scene is pushed forward largely by word of mouth, so if you like a breweries beers talk them up! I agree on the price point being a little high, but if you go to the brewery itself you see how small of an operation it is, and how much they're looking to improve upon that. Charging more means more beer being brewed in the future, so I am OK with helping them out with that.

Crop Bistro I have had three bottles from, and of the three two we're funky in a bad way. I don't know if they just sit on the shelves too long or what, but I wasn't too pleased with them when I opened it. The third one was Idletyme and I found it to be pretty good, but not anything super special. I think I had anticipated writing about it but changed my mind when I didn't have much to write about :-/

Had a bottle of Fair Maiden that blew my mind last week. I've had a couple that may not have retained freshness in the bottle after a few weeks. Overall I'm a big fan.

Only beers I've had from crop bistro were on tap at the brewery. Haven't bought any of their bottles

Had a bottle of fair maiden a couple weeks ago; great beer. It seems like they maybe a casualty to their NE sibling breweries. If they were somewhere else producing that beer they would probably be held to higher acclaim.

shhh... I'm liking the fact that I can walk in to store and pick up world class beers without the hype, releases(except for the bevi) and lines

No question, Foley Bros. makes some world class IPA's. The problem is that there are other world class IPA's here in VT that cost about half as much per ounce at the package store, so they often get ignored. On tap, the pricing disparity largely disappears, and this is how I usually have my FB beers. Really liking Citrennial lately.

maybe it's the fact that it's pretty much available when you want and you don't need to go drive 3+ hours and stand in line.

Don't buy Foley because it is twice the price of other as good beers. And Crop Bistro is pretty awesome. I found fresh (I think, they don't date their bottles) Stoneface IPA and it was excellent.

The bomber format isn't helping the pricing much, but at the brewery the prices are pretty reasonable. No more than a bomber of Stone Enjoy By. While Pieces of Eight is my favorite, and compares with the Trillium DDH DIPAs as a massive hop bomb, Citrennial is something I wish they canned, as it is just a great drinking IPA.

For those who think Fair Maiden changed, my experience so far is this. First one: superb. Next one: good, but not as good. Most recent one: superb again. I'm not sure what happened, hop supply perhaps, but the fair maiden I picked up in October and tasted at the brewery was back to the original, and pretty amazing. Tasted again later along with Sip and I thought Fair Maiden was a clear winner.

I love that these guys are only 20 minutes or so from our place in Rochester.

For a while Costco had fair maiden for like $5.99 a bottle. Normally its between 7.99-8.99, I don't think its unreasonable for the quality of the beer.
