I recently heard that Folksbier completely shut down recently, is that true? It comes up as "Temporarily Closed" on Google and there's no instagram anymore, but I don't see anything written about it.

If true, that would really be a huge shame.

I was there Saturday enjoying a couple beers. Still going strong.

Though I was mildly annoyed because I went there specifically because I was in a non-IPA mood and most of what they had on tap that day was IPAs.

EDIT: In addition to their social media being gone their website is now private too so uhhhhhhhhhh I have no idea

Even if it was a temporary closing I assumed there wouldn't be anybody there answering a public line, but I gave it a shot and got one ring before silence. Not a great sign.

I think they are usually closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays anyway, so there wouldn't necessarily be someone there to answer.

There's a post on Reddit saying that they abruptly shut down and fired everyone over email... it was a comment by one of the employees

Em and I will take credit for that one. First we drank ALL the beers, then they ran out and just could never top what was made for her and I that day.

For what it’s worth, that beer was fantastic and the girl working there was extremely nice. But it was as dead as could be when we were there. It also was in an area I almost wouldn’t have expected a brewery to be.

Either way, shitty way to go out. Thanks for the couple of pours though!

    Sorry NY!

I think their beer is a little overpriced but anything I drank of theirs was quality. That would suck if they closed. I know IG has been having issues with some breweries lately (who knows why?) so I was hoping that was it but that employee seems to confirm.

Did you catch where he said he'd be hitting up these breweries wearing a Patagonia vest?

I can confirm. It is unfortunate at how unprofessionally Travis handled the this.

Joey, Ben and Joe were doing great things over there.

That REALLY sucks. From my perspective, I’m not that surprised if it had anything to do with their overhead (mobile canning in NYC has gotta be pretty pricey) and what they charge customers for their beer. Even though it’s probably the best American version I’ve had, $16 for a 4 pack of helles (where I live) in 12 oz cans is ludicrous.

can you shed any light on what the background / lead up was for closing? Just got over their skis from an overhead perspective?

Grabbed some cans (on the old side) from Clinton Gourmet. They still have quite a few left for anyone who's looking for nostalgia's sakes.

Breaks my heart. Enjoyed every pilsner and lager I've had from them. The quality was always outstanding
