So about a year ago I was visiting my cousin in Raleigh I tried this amazing beer called Jade IPA by Foothills, I believe it was their seasonal IPA great beer! When ever her and my other female family members went shopping, they would drop my cousins fiance and I off at a local pub known for craft beer. Every where I went had Foothills, if not on tap at least in bottle makes sense since Winston-Salem is not far from Raleigh. I know the beer is available in Virginia and I believe Washington DC as well.

I was wondering if anyone knew if this company had any interest in coming one state farther to Maryland?

Or just post about the brewery and let me know if the brewery is as good as I think they are.

Their Hoppyum IPA has pretty much become my go to IPA.

Foothills makes some good beer. Baltic Porter is great. Everyone goes nuts over Sexual Chocolate (although I don't think it's that great). Jade IPA is decent if you can get it fresh, which can sometimes be an issue. It tends to sit around forever. Their IPA of the month series is a pretty cool thing that they have going on. A different IPA every month since last January. They have all been pretty solid. Foothills is just a solid above average brewery overall I would say. I have no clue what their plans are for expansion or increased distribution however.

I haven't gotten a chance to try anything from Foothills yet. Sexy and BA Sexy are always on my radar, though.

Hopefully, we will see Jade in a 6er soon! That is what I am waiting for! Can't really understand why they don't have it in 6 packs honestly!

Being a North Carolinian, Foothills is my favorite NC brewery. Foothills actually only just recently started bottling Jade (last fall I believe). Not to say they won't put it in 6 packs, but so far the only IPA available in 12oz bottles is Hoppyum. I'm a big fan of their Carolina Strawberry (cream ale) which is a great thirst quencher in the summer and perfect for mowing the grass.

To the OP, several bars in DC serve Foothills. I've seen Jade at Churchkey and Hoppyum at a couple other bars.

Jade is an awesome IPA, my second fave from NC (I give Freak of Nature a slight edge, though they are very similar to me).

I'm with you on these being the top 2 in nc. They seem to be stepping up their bottled offerings so hopefully Jade 6ers will be coming at some point.
Foothills puts out some really solid stuff. One of my favorites that doesn't get much love, I guess due to style, is Torch pilsner.

Torch is my go-to beer in the summer and also watching football in the fall.

Yeah i know they are in DC however I live on the eastern shore of Delaware. So I drive across the boarder, 5 minutes, to get the beer I cant get in DE but can in MD. Cheers!

I do not live in NC and have never heard of Freak of Nature, who brews it?

If you like lighter style session-able ales I suggest you try Flying Dog's "Dead Rise." Nice light beer with substance, brewed with old bay, great for a summer day. I have heard many mixed reviews about it, I think many bad reviews were people that simply wanted something different. I am not really a fan of pilsner's, unless its mama's lil yella, but even then I feel like I'm settling when I could have had a Dales.
    Cheers

Wicked weed in Asheville. I don't think they distribute widely. The other nc IPA that gets some hype is hop drop n roll from noda but I personally don't like it quite as well as jade. It's worth trying if you can find it.

With Wicked Weeds large expansion, you may begin to see it hit further abroad. I think the goal is somewhere around 50,000 barrels per year. For perspective, Wicked Weed Brew pub was the largest brewpub in sales volume on the east coast, they sold something on the order of 5,000 barrels at the pub last year.

Both Jade and Freak crush HD&R IMO. Lynwood's Hubris is better than Hop Drop too.

Not a fan of most of Foothills other offerings though. Most of the ipa's of the month are good and of course Sexual Chocolate and the bourbon variant. Don't really like Hoppyum.

Yeah they don't bottle it at all, but Freak can be had on tap occasionally in some places around the state.

HDnR is an incredible beer, as are Jade and Freak. I've read that they will start bottling Freak at some point in the not too distant future.

The beeradvocate page for Freak of Nature shows a bottle, are you sure they don't bottle it?
