I was at foothills tonight and had a pretty detailed conversation with someone in charge and they told me that the decision to make or not make ORF has not been finalized yet. They said that if pappy barrels were not available they had other options and that the three breweries are making their stouts already. Also Sexy C is in the works already (I informed them of the other option Olde Wicked Foot and they thought it was a col idea). I also asked why they had Battle Crye in bottles but not on draught in the brewpub and they said that its because they have a contract with the Renaissance fair to supply them so they don't want to run out of supply for the res. fair by having it in the brewpub but it will be available soon. Another topic I brought up was the lack of variety or experimental batches in the brewpub and they told me that next year they are going to have an experimental batch of the month and its going to be a one off batch only available in the brewpub. I asked about Sexy C variants but they told me the brewer isn't fond of flavored beers. And the Hoppy Medium is out as of tonight but they have more in the brewery (they weren't expecting the demand for it to be that high).

    Cheers!

That's strange regarding Olde Rabbit's Foot, as founder Jamie Bartholomaus has already confirmed it won't come out in 2013 since they have always used Pappy barrels exclusively for that beer.

This sounds like Foothills' M.O. I like Foothills and think their beers are great. I do not know how to brew beer and am definitely not a business professional so that makes my opinion worth less than 2 cents.

However, Foothills has always lacked variety in their brew-pub options. Before bottling I would make special out-of-the-way trips to Winston since that was the only choice, although the trips have ceased completely.

I have been extremely impressed and excited about their bottling choices and progress. However, I do believe a larger variety of choices at the brewpub would make it more of a destination for us "locals (North Carolinians)" I do not see a reason to actually visit the brew-pub unless you are downtown Winston. I do not think they necessarily have to draw in locals, but I definitely would stop by on frequent visits to Asheville if something out of the regular lineup was on tap!!!!

I forgot to add that they are working on getting the big brewery off Stratford ready for tours, and its going to have an onsite tasting room as well.

Hell, I've been there on many occasions and had a wide array of brews available on every visit. I could never fault Foothills for their brewpub not having a variety of excellent choices.

I wouldn't be surprised if ORF don't happen. It's sad but whstever. We have an abundance of stouts in this state.

Nos of wicked weed cut The freak, that would cause an uproar.

I don't think people ever voiced this complaint until Foothills started distributing what once were brewpub exclusives. We forget that it wasn't long ago that you couldn't buy Seeing Double, Hoppyum, People's Porter (reg. and barrel-aged) and other beers all across the state.

This is a good problem to have, folks. Be thankful that so many of these beers are accessible -- I'm sure they'll start working on more brewpub exclusives (as they recently did with the coffee People's Porter, or the Randalls). I swear, the same people that complain about the lack of brewpub exclusives are the same ones asking for Jade to be bottled and shipped all over the place. :stuck_out_tongue:

I for one have the luxury of living close to the brewery and therefore trying many of their experimental brews or "one-offs" if you call them. They've been available (not in mass quantity) you just have to go at the right time. They don't advertise them much but they've been there. The BA Hoppyum, baby jade, papa jade, and the BA Total Eclipse(<---BRING BACK PLEASE  --- )are just a few of them.

And be thankful they ARE accesible. Remember when Wilmington wasn't getting any 6-ers of hoppyum or PP? Enjoy it! And more good things are coming.

BA Hoppyum was on tap Tuesday, as well as Hoppy Medium.

Just saw on Mellow Mushrooms Facebook that the were tapping some BA Total Eclipse this month because Foothills is their brewery of the month.

I think these are consistent messages. There's no way at this point that they could age a beer for 6-9 months and still release it in 2013. It's likely Beeranator's source was referring to the future. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a 2014 re-appearance of ORF.

exactly, nobody ever "complained" about brewpub exclusives before it was bottled, cause it was only at the brewpub or a bar, and that made it exclusive. Now that the regulars are bottled, it would be nice to stop in when I can find something that last more than a week or two. I am not even talking about bourbon-barrell aged or randalized beer on a Tuesday night, just a few more standard consistent options that are not bottled which would give those passing through a different option than the standard lineup, especially those with daily access to the bottled selection.

I swear, Jade is no longer a brewpub exclusive, it is a beer I can find on draft at my favorite local bar every day of the week. I see no reason why it should not be bottled and distributed.

I asked about Bottling Jade and what i got told is that it is one of the beers that is still brewed at the brewpub so they're trying to scale the recipe up to the big system before they can bottle it.

I can get growlers of Jade, but having a bomber around is a goal.
