So it's late at night and I'm trying to wrap my head around how tightly, seemingly, people are hanging on to their King Henrys. So I put together a little poll. I'm asking that ONLY people who actually have KH in their possession and would be open to trading respond. Responses are not public so you don't have to worry about people hounding you to trade away your KH. This is purely for non-scientific research. Not looking to start a thread discussion; just looking for poll responses. I'm not necessarily seeking a KH myself, but I've tried for a few and my regular trading partners have tried too (in vain).

No need to tell me this is stupid or "it depends." You don't have to continue reading this thread if you don't like it. Just move along.

If I recall, KH had a 12k bottle count and was on the shelf (so not "brewery only").

OK, here's the scenario. For a 1:1 bottle trade, what would you EXPECT to receive for you King Henry. Not looking for "XXX + locals." Not even what you want, but more like what is the bottle-for-bottle value you, as an owner, expect for your KH. Just trying to gauge a "value" and kill some time.

I ran out of room for answers; sorry I couldn't list more. Again, this is not scientific. If you expect more that what's listed, feel free to note that in a response.

I'll be expecting all ten of those bottles for my bottle of KH.

I just don't think a poll can really illustrate this idea accurately. What if I would trade my KH for more than one of those beers? And I probably would. I can only make one choice. I know it's not scientific data or anything but this format just doesn't get us anywhere.

Nothing. I tried one of my two bottles of KH about a week and a half ago. The other one is not for trade. Period. It's on par with Rare in my opinion, and given that it will never be made again, I'm not letting it go.

Hopefully that helps you understand why it is so hard to trade for one.

It seems once you get a bottle of KH in your hands, you turn into a instatroll. KH for a BT'11? Craziness.

King Henry is way better than BT '11. I have both and would rather part with a BT in a trade. Theoretically BT should trade for more, but in reality people enjoy the taste of KH better.

Well goddammit. Had I known how much everyone like King Henry, I wouldn't have drank the one I had a month ago, especially since I'm not really a huge barleywine guy.

Opinion or fact? BT should and does have a higher trade value. If traders would only stand their ground and not budge with the KH trolls, KH value would be fairly weighted. But everyone bought into the hype and thus we see the how the trade market is today.

    /personally don't understand the hype.
    // i think Sucuba/Abacus is better.

All of those options would be either on par or well above equal to a KH. But that said, I have no plans to trade KH because it's just so darn good.

You're right. Every single one of the hundreds of people on the forums who have commented on King Henry's epicness has just been trolling you. I can't believe you finally caught on!

As many have echoed before, after going to the release party at Goose and trying some, I was hooked. I won't be trading any of my bottles, and I've even traded for another bottle or two because the beer is that damn good. So you don't like it as much. Ok. That doesn't mean that nobody else does. And if you really don't like it that much, why do you care how much it's trading for? Trade value is all in the eye of the beholder.

People think BT '09 stands up to KH? Let alone BT '11?

It's amazing to me how many people commented in this thread with "I'm not trading mine" and failed to read the part where the OP said "I'm asking that ONLY people who actually have KH in their possession and would be open to trading respond."

Having had both KtG and Black Tuesday against KH, I wouldn't waste my time trading for either. KH tops both by a mile. Rare or BN, yeah.

To answer OPs question directly, my King Henry's have been dispersed as such:

1 KH for 1 Birth of Tragedy
1 KH is being sent to AK in a box for Midnight Sun stuff in return
    1 KH for 1 BCBVS
1 KH was sent out in the Black Booty BIF
    1 KH was extra'd
    2 KH were consumed

This is a lot more useful than a survey.

Also, the problem with the survey here is people are just picking pipe dreams. Nobody is seriously going to land BA Dark Lord for King Henry on the open market. Hell, I got exactly one bottle of KH, and I fully plan on drinking it and have zero interest in trading it, but I probably would move it for a BA Dark Lord because the opportunities for super desirable 500 bottle count releases don't come along nearly as much as 12,000 bottle count widely distributed beers like KH. Black Note, Rare, Kate, etc aren't very far behind. Point being, anybody that picks those isn't really looking to trade their KH unless they got a godfather offer.

I have a KH trade in the works but it is part of a larger trade so its value is displaced throughout the deal. I am open to trading more but honestly don't feel like shipping so it holds me back. Also, I don't really see the point in a one for one trade for a beer that is probably on par with the KH. Why not just drink the KH? I don't need to tick.

The answer to your question is that it's not hype or trolls.

We had a 100% blind BA barleywine tasting with what we consider to be the best BA barleywines in the U.S. & it wasn't even close. King Henry in a landslide (remember, blind, we didn't know what we were drinking & most had never tasted it before).

I consider Abacus an A/A+ beer & it tasted pretty mediocre next to the King. I totally understand why people are clutching these bottles close. If I had another, no way would I trade it.
