Abyss '08, CBS, and Darkness would seem to be fair 1:1 deals to me. CBH is probably not enough, but it's close (same distro as CBS, but less demand/hype). BT '11 would be a fair 1:1 if the KH owner threw in an extra $10 or so in extras. Black Note, Kate, Rare, and BA Dark Lords are too much imo. As others have mentioned, the 2 big factors making it hard to trade for KH are that it's so damn tasty and that it will not be made again. I have cracked one open and have 3 more in my cellar, but would have a very hard time trading them for a "fair" deal b/c I just love it so much.

I ran out of room. Totally meant to put Huna up there too.

My guess was that people who own KH and would be willing to trade them have had them, so they can speak personally to how good it is. This "experiment" is showing insight into the KH owners' minds about the perceived value; whereas most "value" threads try to base them off past trades (which has its validity too).

Interestingly, the leading 1:1 bottle trade right now is for Beatification, with Darkness 2011 in second. What I'm also seeing is that KH owners don't expect their bottle to be as worthy as a BA Dark Lord or Rare (yet!), but it's more than CBH or even KtG '12 (which was lottery + lower bottle count + brewery only) right now.

Obviously there are lots of ways one can approach valuating KH; this is simply one of them, and I get to use the poll feature. Thanks to all who have voted.

Traded a KH for a FfaC
Sent a KH in a big box of stuff for a bunch of Lawson's and Hill Farmstead
Would probably trade a KH for a Beatification

I think that Black Note, Rare and BA Dark Lords should never be traded for KH. Just my personal opinion.

I would consider my last bottle of KH for a Rare(just because I've never had it)..... that's about it.

Has this been announced? That it will never be brewed again? I know they announced that for Rare, but King Henry too?

KH was aged in barrels that used to hold Rare. No more Rare, no more KH. Maybe they'll make something else similar, but it won't be KH.

Ewright beat me at the buzzer, but on another note, whoever said they would trade a King Henry for a BT, feel free to message me if you'd like to discuss that.

King Henry was very disappointing for me. Whiskey dominated, couldn't differentiate whether it was PVW or something out of a cheap plastic bottle. Just didn't have the body to absorb the heat. I wonder if the majority opinion would be different if this beer didn't have the rare factor going for it, who knows.

MOAS, Old Bluehair, CW, Kuhnenn, Old Dipsea, Sprecher, Bligh's. . . all as good or better in my "rare" opinion (so that should make it more important?).

I just think stouts are better base beers than barleywines in the aggregate as well. . .

After 75 votes, CBS has pulled ahead, with Black Tuesday and Beatification close behind.

These threads would be more productive if some people on here understood the reality that:
    a) people enjoy beer in different ways
    b) people value beer in different ways

I wish some would stop insisting there is a right answer to all these beer comparisons and not blame differing opinions on nefarious intentions or being a slave to hype. It's lazy and tired.

You're just trying to hype Subjectivity to raise its trade value.

KH isn't rare. The fact it trades like this proves people like it more than a similar beer. I'm not sure of exact bottle counts, but it's in the same general range as other BCBS variants and Founder's special releases. The only difference is once you consume KH for the first time, you never let the other bottles out of your sight and walk away muttering "My precious"

In actuality, King Henry was way under-hyped at first. It sat on the shelves for a week or two (I know that doesn't sound long, but for a GI release it is) and only gained speed after people started trying it and LOVING it. People are holding onto it not to drive up trade value, but because they want to drink it for themselves.

Actually my experience is kind of the opposite. . . I'm kind of going "man, I know I promised the tasting group to drink my other bottle in a few years, but I found the beer to be so "meh" that I probably should just unload it while the demand is still very high, despite the very high supply as well. . .

I got one coming in a trade on Fri. I fully intend to drink it within a week or 2, imagine that.
