Well it is an Imperial Coffee Porter.
Got two...can't wait to try one....also thanks for helping me find what else I was looking for...
Fair enough. Maybe better phrased...I didn't get much vanilla. Maybe I'm spoiled but it lacked the depth I was expecting from such a highly rated beer. Will I happily buy more, yes. Will I expect more when I try it on draft, yes. It's much like Alaskan Smoked Porter..solid in every way..not spectacular in any.
My experience with vanilla and coffee is the vanilla always has a hard time shining through initially. Coffee tends to fade faster than vanilla, sit on a bottle and try it again in 6mo to a year. I've only had this beer once, with about a year and a half on it, it had some really nice notes but nothing exceptional.
Also to add....if the coffe is too much consider aging the beer in a cooler place than where you'd normally age it...my more recent experiences with both homebrew and popular coffee beers is that colder aging, like in the fridge, fades coffee flavors quicker....unfortunately the vanilla might fade some as well...
I just had a bottle last night that was from Feb '12. Not much coffee but the vanilla was very noticeable. Solid stout either way and I'm happy to have it in TX.
I'll be here at 4ish if anyone wants to meet up? I've got to leave by 5 though
Plenty of Lagunitas Sucks and Ballast Point Victory at Sea at Total Wine Dallas, was there this afternoon and saw a bunch of each.
Lagunitas Sucks 6pks
Avery Maharaja 22oz
DFH 120 IPA 12oz (one bottle limit of course)
Avery Mephistopheles 12oz
I will make the rounds today and talk to all the beer guys in Fort Worth (Kings, Spec's, CM, and Total) and see what's what. Kings was expecting a similar shipment to Fern's post above.
Looks to be a hoppy New Year. Need to land a sixer of Hopslam and Troegs NN soon
Open @ 10a? Right?
Not to butt in but... yes they open @10
Thank you sir....on my way
Literally the only one of Fern's beers to land in FW was 120.
I'm growing tired of saying "Halls has it, why don't you?" just as much as area reps hate when my beer guys call them asking the same thing. I bet fern even has non expired ruination
Hate to bust up the Fern love(cuz I love 'em too), but not the only place in FW/Tarrant that got 120's.
Other stores tend to have set delivery days, we get orders everyday at our store.
Sorry I was unclear. Every place I went had 120, none of the other beers.
And all these places had deliveries today...although perhaps not from every distributor.
Yeah, I was in a store last week that got ruination 4 packs delivered. Bottled in October. Ugh.
I totally see it now. Your second paragraph("Halls has it, why don't you?") cancelled out what was said in the first... at least in my head.
Ommegang 15th anniversary 750 ml
Stone perfect crime 12oz
Shipyard xxxx ipa 22oz
Got another 20 case shipment this morning of Victory at Sea today!
Also got in the new Rock Ryder 6pks from Lakewood today as well
And what Fern posted as well!
Lone Star Bev
Bad beer night. Finally got the courage to open Gotlandstricka and the heavy Juniper just isn't my style at all. So I decided to pop a Small Batch #4...and behold my first sour one. It's like a Smoked Funk Metal...and compared to the Gotland it's strangely drinkable.
Boulevard Rye on Rye 750ml(one per customer)........and it wont cost $35...I swear.
Sweet Jumpin Jesus I've been waiting for this! Thanks Fern
Picked up my warm, fresh-from-the-truck bottle this morning. Along with some Ruthless Rye and some more Sucks.
FW doesn't even have Sucks nor Victory yet.
Yea for no beer!
I usually go to Halls for the "hard to find anywhere elsewhere" bombers. I can't recall, but do they allow you to do mixed six pack?
The 2 places I know that allow mixed six packs are Total Wine and The Bottle Shop on Lower Greenville if you're looking for that.
Thought so. Thanks
Thanks. I live and work in Tarrant County so I usually go to Central Market in FTW or Beer & Wine World in Mansfield for my mixed sixers.
or any whole foods or central market.... or maybe just one of those... cant remember fully.
Lakewood lager 6pk 12oz
Lakewood The Temptress 4pk 12oz
Lakewood Rock Ryder 6pk 12oz
It's a great week for beer!
No kidding. Too bad we can't do a sampler/mixed six pack!!
They're all 3 worthy of purchasing the entire pack if you're into the style of brew. Temptress, in my opinion, is now the best stout made in Texas.
I second that!
Am i wrong in remembering ruthless rye being more bitter last year?
I found it pretty unpleasant fresh last year, so I aged a bottle about 6-8 months, and it made a world of difference.
Exactly my thoughts...it tastes like an aged version of last year's. still like it, but i enjoy that unpleasantness.
Last years mixed in with this years maybe? Where'd you buy this?
