Would a bcs rare+ ba alpha w/cherries get me close to landing one. Does this ruffle any feathers?

I traded mine for a rare, KH, arctic devil, and a beat5. Not sure if other people would do that or not (personally, I think it was an extremely generous offer), but I'd say you're not too far off.

Edit: though there might be issues with the cherry klaus just because most people who have a vanilla DL probably had a chance to get some variant of BA klaus, if not the cherry.

No. Venn diagram problem for me. I would need west coast rarities or something from Belgium I think.

What sort of west coast rarities?

Something like Veritas 007 and Mimosa would be quite tempting.

Yeah the BA Alpha is not helping your cause.

Going to agree whole heartedly. Big Venn diagram issue for me, as Rare and the BA Alpha Clause were Both available locally. Also going to add, that unless you are willing to trade something equally desirable ( this obviously varies, depending on the trader), the quantity your trading needs to be quality quantity. If your hoping someone, not local wants to trade, you need to remember, they prob had to trade and ship to get it first. So, it's going to take even more to get them to retrade. That being said, everyone's personal whales are different. If you keep up the posts, there is always a chance the right person will see it. Best of luck

Not everyone who went to Dark Lord Day or got a BA DL lives near there. 2 local Austin BAs got Vanilla Brandy DL, 1 traded his for 4 King Henrys, the other traded hers for a Lente and a Fou Foune (and 1 more bottle I think).

i was about to trade a rare + cbs for one when the trader backed out. found someone else with one who wanted rare + cbs + another bottle, but i decided to go for a bourbon barrel DL for rare + CBS in an in person swap.

Are these other DL versions exponentially better than the reg. DL? I have heard many people say DL isn't worth all the hype, but it seems that people are willing to give anything for these other versions. are they really that good?

They're rare, and expensive, and that is better than delicious. Disclaimer- I haven't tasted any of the variants.

I have not tried any DL, and was thinking the same as you, but had hoped that something more than hype/rarity had accounted for the high value/desire. I wonder if the people giving up an arm, leg, and their first born are actually happy with the trade?(after they open it, and come to terms with what it took to get it)

I traded 2 Rares for one BA Vanilla DL plus one '12 DL. I don't know if it will be worth it but I figured why the hell not. Unless I go to DL day myself and get a winning ticket or get it off of the bay then I will probably never have the ammo to trade for it again. Plus, Rare didn't blow me away (I know I'm in the minority) so I don't think I'll feel like I gave up 2 "better" beers for the vanilla DL. Though I haven't tried the Vanilla yet.

I would say no. You could buy Rare for about six months after the release in Indianaplis. I went to DLD so had access to Alpha Klaus with cherries. I traded my Vanilla for a Blabaer.

The Bourbon is my personal favorite but I haven't had any of the Muertes :slight_frown:. The Bourbon is phenomenal and I believe I rated it a 4.78.

despite if i love it or hate it (based on the reviews, the Bourbon DL i swapped for sounds pretty tasty)...i've had rare and cbs many times. many people in my tasting group have these beers also and have shared them with me multiple times. having the opportunity to share a bourbon DL with my group is worth the Rare & CBS i gave up for it even if we don't like it. at least we'll all have gotten the chance to try it. who knows, at the tasting where we open it, a CBS and/or a Rare could show up anyway...

It really is crazy how often these beers show themselves at tastings. I've only opened one Rare myself yet had people open one probably five times or so.

Personally, I would only trade a BA Dark Lord for a different BA Dark Lord variant. I am somewhat of a FFF fanboy, and while I know Rare (CBS, meh) is a great beer, and one of my favorites, it doesn't get me into a tasting with multiple BA Dark Lords in attendance. I'm sure I'm not alone in this sentiment.

I'm convinced that there are still +5,000 unopened bottles of GI Rare.
