Forager must have been pretty sold out of their good stuff.

I'd put Grand Rounds' NE IPA and Coconut Stout up there with Forager (and sometimes ahead), but outside of those two beers, Forager has been clearly better in my experience. Grand Rounds is doing some really good stuff, but I've never been that into their whole line up.

Yes. And I agree with the poster above, they have some good beers, but overall Forager is better.

I've had a growler of Mo Citra Mo Problems from Grand Rounds, which was nice, but Forager's offerings seemed a bit better to me. That said, Grand Rounds has a peanut stout and a NE IPA that are intriguing, and I only had two beers from Forager, a lager and Hip Hops, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Beer J is where it's at for Grand Rounds.

That NE IPA, scotch ale, coconut stout and the peanut butter stout were all freaking fantastic.

Forager's Rent-A-Hop was...good, but not something I'd go out of my way for.

    I would agree.

But that's definitely not the top of Forager's game. Not even close.

I'll give it another shot. I was just expecting a few more options than the 3-4 they had at the time.

I had Danq on Sunday alongside Hip Hop. Everyone at our take thought Danq was better. Smells fantastic.

Are crowlers usually available still on Saturday afternoon?

Until last weekend, I had only tried Grand Rounds at beer fests and found the beers they brought to be average at best. I stopped at their taproom on Friday in protest of Hip Hops crowlers being sold out. Beer J was very solid and an good example of a NE IPA, but I still prefer most Forager IPAs. I also had a pint of Hans Grubier, which may be the worst kettle sour I ever had. It was essentially a glass of butyric acid.

I had a bad sour there the last time I stopped. Not sure if it's the one you're referring to or not.

LTS is a good Rochester stop if you've struck out at Forager. I've never had a bad beer there. That said, Beer J is showier than anything they do, or at least were doing when I stopped last. They aren't necessarily hitting home runs, but they have a great on-base percentage.

The Forager tap takeover at Ansari's is fairly mellow - just left there. Beers are impressive.

I went to Forager on Friday for the first time. My wife and I had lunch there. The food was good and the beer was too. I tried to buy a crowler of Haka, but was told that it wasn't time yet, so they couldn't sell me one. Not the biggest deal, but I wasn't super happy about it. I may go back at some point, maybe on the way down to TG or something.

Not sure I should even weigh in on this considering the topic, but I'll share what I heard from one employee at Forager earlier last week when I stopped in for some food, a crowler of Sherpa, a pour of Haka, and a pour of Danqs.

They were really surprised by the Hip Hop crowler thing. They would prefer not to have to deal with limits (I'm guessing keeping up with people who sneak through more than once), and they are playing with the ideas of varying release times and even soft/silent releases.

It did not sound like they were totally pleased with the 70+ purchase by one dude. They knew the story and why that was happening (beer crew), but they didn't think it totally right. On the one hand, hard to be mad at someone spending 800 bucks at your place, but on the other hand, the employee said something along the lines of "you replace that situation with apples instead of beer and the purchaser and Forager seem less than great (to put it nicely). But, since it is beer, some people seem to think it is okay."

This is just what I heard from one employee. It is of course impossible and a fool's errand to attempt to make everyone happy.

Haka was great! But then, I love me some NZ hops.
