Not sure whether to put this here or in Beer News... Short notice, but I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned on here already. A friend-of-a-friend's Chicago brewery upstart is trying to fight a neighborhood organization for zoning. There's a meeting happening tonight and they are looking for supporters. http://chicagoist.com/2014/01/22/forbidden_roots_fight_against_local.php http://www.wbez.org/news/culture/proposed-craft-brewery-sparks-debate-chicago-109563
I was impressed by the turn out and show of support. @Pipeworks was there and gave info on some ridiculous concerns that a community member had about water waste from brewing. Basically some property owners in the area are worried about vagabonds fighting and peeing on the street if the moratorium is lifted. I guess they don't know the craft beer community's reputation. We like to keep our fighting and bickering online, and pee in to glasses and call it miller and bud like classy adults.
Vagabonds (nice term btw) fighting and peeing in the streets would be something that a Sports Bar featuring BMC, 48 flatscreens and wing nights would bring into the neighborhood.
