Wether it be a DIPA, a hazy, a few oz of a stout or a fruited wild ale or lambic, do you ever think any of these or your own choice of a beer is a better choice than a baked good/ice cream/snack of choice?
Calorie/fat/health wise do you ever think a beer is a better after dinner “snack”?

At a restaurant I typically prefer another beer rather than a dessert, however I like a good baked good with a beer at home

We always have lower calorie evening snacks/desserts around the house, and they're always a healthier choice than the heavy/sugary beers I favor. I sometimes choose one over the other, but just as often have both. :flushed:

My dad used to say, “it ain’t dessert if it ain’t blonde”.

    ...yes...

...I'd rather have fermented sugars (with residual sugar body) over a pile of refined sugars for my after dinner enjoyment...

...and my quick, simple interweb research suggests the calories involved are likely equal (depending on type of dessert or beer)...

Yes, unless I can have both.

Health wise alcohol is one of the worst decisions you can make after a meal, but can't live without it!

I frequently open a 'sipper' beer and drink some during dinner, but my intent is to save most of it and have it coming up to room temp to sip after dinner for awhile. Sometimes I'll have a cookie or other sweet dessert with it.

I rarely have a beer with a meal, unless I am out at a restaurant, then I might...50/50 when out.

Dude. My dude, always eat dessert first. The giant meteor may hit before the main course is ready.

    Dessert truthers stand!

really? I’m going at this all hot takes. Why is alcohol after a meal a poor health choice?

Not drinking at all is best thing for your health calorie/fat/health wise.

    I think.

for me it’s like cake and a fruit compote or an ipa/ fruited beer and I feel like my beer choice is a healthier choice than refined sugar/empty calories

Why does one have to choose between the two? Isn’t this why pastry stouts were invented?

Occasionally I have cake, pie, chocolate and such but almost never at restaurants; except Gregg's.

At an Italian restaurant I might have Sambuca Romana and espresso, maybe a cannoli. I am not of Italian decent.

My short answer is Beer IS my dessert.
    Cheers.

When I was a kid I needed to have a sweet thing after a meal, it was like a reward. I do eat sweets but not after a meal unless it’s a holiday pie, Thanksgiving Christmas. I do eat too much chips and such when I have a beer after I eat. Since I am cutting back I am eating less salty snacks, I just need to figure out how to kick my sugar addiction. It’s really hard. Much harder than giving up a beer.

    Enjoy

Unfortunately, I make poor decisions frequently and end up having both...those choices have started showing up on the scale. When I get on it.

One is a bowl of dry cereal, Cheerios or Special-K (not big on milk). Or Special-K blueberry or strawberry pastry-crisps. Also protein bars, such as Irvine Fit Crunch. Sometimes small low-calorie ice-cream treats. All much lower calorie/fat than most craft beer. The key is to always have something on hand as an alternative to what you're otherwise tempted to have.
