Foregoing dessert for a beer

I drastically cut out (sugary) desserts 3 months ago. Beer is my preferred dessert now.

 

I usually get a sweet tooth for chocolate in the afternoon. I’m really cutting back on beer so trying to stick with 1 per day. If it’s a new beer I need to review, I usually prefer to have in before dinner or at least 1/2 of it before dinner (like 10-15 min before) to ensure my taste buds are not influenced by the food. Then I’ll continue to have that beer during and potentially after I finish eating. I usually eat about 2-3 hrs before bed, so that’s ideal deadline/ time to have a beer as well so it doesn’t affect sleep. If it’s a repeat beer, I may have it during meal or whenever I just feel like having a beer.

 

This is my thinking as well. I only want so much sugar in my diet each day and I'd much rather have them in the form of fermented and complex sugars than simple and refined. In most cases, the beer tastes better than dessert would as well.


Also, any mods reading this, can we get NBW re-opened for the holiday?

 

All the time, to the point where we intentionally pick a beer that pairs. When losing a lot of weight my motto was “beer or dessert for the day, never both”
