Hi. I'm brewing with millet and buckwheat tomorrow am. I forgot to buy rice hulls and the store is 30 min one way.

My set up uses a Coleman cooler with a steel braided manifold (the outer layer of plumbing tube) along the bottom.

My idea: I have a large hops bag. What if I tie that around the manifold? Would that be enough to prevent a stuck sparge, or should I suck up the drive and just get the rice hulls.

    Thanks.

It might help. Worst case, of it sticks, stir it up, re-vorlauf and proceed.

The grains have no hulls, in case that's helpful info.

Are you using hulled buckwheat or whole? If whole, the hulls will help with filtration. If you're using hulled buckwheat (and cereal mashing, I'm assuming) then you're in trouble. You can definitely keep stirring, but hulls would make life much easier.

Not to further complicate things, but rice hulls from your LBHS are probably contaminated. Sorry

Yikes. Didn't realize those were the only grains. I'd get some rice hulls.

ETA: is this supposed to be GF?

Guess i'm too late but I've heard of people using copper scouring pads. Don't use the cheap ones, they will rust.
