According to their Facebook page Fort Bend Brewing is going out of business. Any thoughts on this?

Check the Breweries in Planning thread - discussion is going on over there.

This had been rumored for a while now. Sad to see local breweries close

Meh, happy to see sub-par breweries close.
Only sad thing is the out of work employees; hopefully the find work quickly.

They had a bad start which gave them a crappy reputation. I tried the Texas Lightning IPA when it first came out and it tasted like bitter dirt. Never went back, which is why brewing beer is so hard a lot of people will not give you a second chance when there is such a monster selection out there. Even harder to survive when you are going up against Karbach, Saint Arnolds, Buffalo Bayou and 8th Wonder. Sucks they couldnt pull it off .. terrible location in Mo city as well that place is not the best for any business. Wonder if someone will take the place over ?

I'm waiting to see their brew equipment listed on Craigslist so I can set up my garage brewery.

Judging from the picture of their brewery on here, it looked like it was located in a strip mall. I don't know for sure, never went there myself...maybe Missouri City will get a new Chuck E Cheese now

It was in warehouse type area you see around Houston. Garage doors and a front office type of deal. The reason I say bad location is it was in Missouri City...that town is out of the way and there is nothing of interest around there. Most people around the Houston area would have to drive a good distance to get there. Not a very trendy place to be in other words.

If they made good enough beer the location wouldn't matter. Lots of breweries have really awful (cheap) locations, but that doesn't really hurt them because people are willing to make the drive.

Same distance from Austin to JK as it was from Houston to Fort Bend.

Location was not their problem. Look at Lone Pint and Southern Star.

The main issue was the beer .. the location didnt HELP is what I was getting at. Mo city sucks.

Did they do Phat DJ? I tried it and it was really bad. Like a home brew gone bad. I could have had a bad bottle but one of the posters was right...why try again and spend money when there is such a huge selection.

That was the one I had by them that I thought was decent. I had it on tap so it was pretty fresh. Not a bad beer, but a really bad name lol

Phat DJ, aside from the terrible name and label, was a decent little IPA b with a fruity aroma and a smooth, not too bitter finish. I thought it was a step in the right direction but too little too late, apparently.

    I actually enjoyed Phat DJ

The Phat DJ I tried yesterday had a ridiculous high and chunky head to it. It took about 15 minutes to pour. Sure it tasted alright but I felt like they went overboard with carapils.

I think they might have made it if they could have opened at first in the old Imperial Sugar plant.... it might have given them enough time to improve the product and build a following in a really cool/historic location.

But that building is a historic site that the town of Sugarland owns, and while they sometimes use it for events, there's just no way they would sell it to someone to use as a brewery. So hypothetically that could not have helped them because it never would have happened in the first place.
