Picked up a 6 pack of Fresh Pick for 8$, a case is 35$. It’s a very solid American ipa, especially for the price point. I’m sure most western mass ba’s have heard of this place, but if you haven’t, check em out! http://www.forthillbrewery.com/
We hiked Mt. Tom (jeez, that would've been 2020, so a 6-month old, four year old, and six year old) then did beers and food trucks at Fort Hill. It's an awesome spot. I love that area.
The beer's great, now they just need to start dating their cans. The beer may be super inexpensive, but unless I know how long it's been sitting I'm not super interested.
I've been wondering about these guys since I saw them at the Total Wine in Everett MA, at a similar price point. Thanks!
I almost mentioned the no date on cans, in my experience, freshness isn’t an issue. I have absolutely no complaints. Its definitely going to be fresher than the three month old juice bomb at 22$ a 12 pack. They’re a relatively small brewery with a fairly large local footprint in liquor stores and restaurants, I imagine they turn out fresh batches pretty regularly. I dont disagree, I would prefer dates, but it’s not driving me away.
I only buy undated cans if they're in a cooler. And if it's an IPA warm on the shelf, I'm only buying it if it's less than 14 days old. I guess it's a bit snobbish but I find that IPAs, especially hazy ones, drop off so fast when they're warm.
I never buy undated cans and I never buy cans that only show a "best by" date. And even then will only buy IPAs less than 30 days old, and everything else less than 60 days old, regardless of whether the beers are in the fridge or on the shelf. I don't think it's snobbish. Given my tastes and the selection I have at the store, I don't need to be any more flexible with my buying criteria to get what I want. It does mean that I won't be buying any Fort Hill until they start stamping cans with packaging dates though.
I rarely pick up shelfie ipas, 90% of the ipas I drink are a week or two old from tree house. I do however, occasionally pick up juice bomb, which is always months old, tastes muted, and FILLED with particles. Fresh pick didn’t taste muted and had no unwanted particles. But yeah, I’m not here to convince anyone to buy their beer, I really don’t care either way.
Yeah, they gotta start can dating. Big fan of Fresh Pick. Haven’t been up to MA. much lately however was up for the Cowboys/Pats game last Oct. and only found Farmer’s fresh and took a chance. Still drinkable, but sediment and muted taste bummed me out. Total crap shoot really.
