The family and I are taking a much needed vacation for a week to Fort Walton Beach Florida in May. Any must-visit beer destinations that I need to check out while we are there? Preferably family friendly as I have 2 small children.
My in-laws live there. Our favorites are 3rd Planet Brewing - Niceville Idyll Hounds Brewing Company - San Destin Wine World in Destin has an awesome bottle shop plus restaurant with a good draft lineup. We usually don’t take our kids since grandma and grandpa are babysitting but all are fairly kid friendly.
Idyll Hounds is definitely your best bet as far as breweries in the (general) area, but it's still kind of a haul from Ft Walton. They crowler most of their draft options, and they periodically release some good IPAs in 4packs which usually stay around for a couple weeks. Also, check their hours beforehand because I think the latest they're ever open is 1900 CST. Somebody else mentioned Wine World in Destin which is a good spot for bottles, and it's attached to a Craft Bar (think Brass Tap but with better food/beer options). Craft Bar will crowler anything they have on tap, and their crowler prices are actually very reasonable.
Can tell you Idyll Hounds doesn't serve any food, nor are they in the immediate vicinity of any restaurants. However, it seems they have a food truck just about every Friday.
