As the title reads, I'll be spending a few days in Ft. Wayne for work soon. I'm from the Notre Dame area so I am not all that unfamiliar with Fort Wayne, but I don't know anything about the beer scene. I've had friends tell me the only must stop is 2Toms? I am also looking for the best taplists if anyone knows Thanks in advance
I was just there this past weekend visiting some family and yes to 2Toms. They have a good selection of hazy IPAs, sours and stouts. My brother in law who lives in Fort Wayne thinks it’s the best in town and I agree. We also stopped at Mad Anthony’s and had their strawberry milkshake IPA which was pretty good. Cheers!
I was at 2Toms about 2 weeks after they opened and would second the opinion that they are worthy of a stop. Summit City brewery is also worth a stop. They have tons of their own taps which usually are pretty decent, and adjunct forward. Another consideration would be Laotto Brewery in Laotto of Hwy 3 which would be a slight detour if coming from SB. They have 8 of their own taps- some staples- but also some experimental stuff, and some minimal pub food.
Agreed with 2toms and Mad Anthony if you’re looking for breweries. Best tap lists will be hoppy gnome, dash inn, acme bar and Ted’s market off the top of my head. Best liquor stores are S&V on illinios road and DuPont and Belmont on DuPont.
My head office is in FW (previously in South Bend, coincidentally), so I've become pretty familiar with the beer scene there over the past 10 months. I live in Chicago, but I'm there at least once a month. Here's my long and short: Short: Nothing is a must stop, but there are plenty of good-to-decent places. Long: 2Toms - Had my first stop there last week actually, as they are pretty new. They are definitely riding the new brewery hype train right now (mainly because of their following on a certain Facebook group). I tried 4 beers: 1 good, 1 ok, and 2 very mediocre. But they brew trendy styles (hazy and high adjuncts), so the new kids love them. But its one of the better taprooms in the city. Hop River - Also one of the better taprooms, with some of the better beers imo. Food is not that good though. Junk Ditch - I quite enjoy their beers, and their food is the best on this list (the Chuck Roast Gnocchi and Mushroom Risotto are killer). But they are also the highest priced. Chicago prices in Fort Wayne. Summit City - I'm not a fan. They focus on brewing as many different beers as they can without making many good ones (quantity over quality). Trubble Brewing - I went once and the most memorable part was the annoying 90's nu metal vibe. Mad Anthonys - Don't go out of your way Ted's Market - Not a brewery, but a really cool little place that almost always has a very good taplist.
