A friend of mine recently became the GM of a couple Fort Worth bars and has the ability to choose the drafts. Given the option to work with 4 drafts I suggested that they choose Texas beer alone. I suggested the following Real Ale Fireman's - year round (for BMC drinkers) Franconia Dunkel - rotator Deep Ellum IPA - rotator Peticolas Velvet Hammer - rotator In the rotator spots Rhar and Saint Arnold could step in. If the bar in question was not a bar centric location (a martini bar by marketing) could they get support from the above breweries (keeping in mind the 'locals only' vibe)? Would (512) be a reasonable addition to the rotator list? I would love to hear your thoughts.
It really depends on the type of bar and where it is located in Fort worth. If it is more like a martini bar I would recommend anthem cherry cider, sorry had to..I distribute it. But in all seriousness a cider and Texas taps. If the bar is downtown or west7th you can do more craft. That is just my thought.
One is downtown and one is 7th street. They currently have Blanche, Magic Hat, Maredsous 8, and Optimator at the location on 7th (unsure what they have downtown, but if my memory holds that location does not have taps at all). Of coarse they could get support. Anvil Bar & Refuge has a great tap list of local and national brands, great relations with the local brewers and other reps, and a lot of people go there in the Houston area just for the beer. Though they are also the quintessential cocktail bar in the city. Same goes for Downhouse in Houston.
I would also say that, in Houston, places like that are becoming more of a trend. Good wine, cocktails, and local beer has been a growing theme in Houston for a while. I think a lot of that has to do with the success of Anvil, or Anvil just popped up at the right time. Anyway, I am not that familiar with the Dallas/Forth Worth scene, but there are a ton of Anvil clones in Houston. Downhouse being the best example I think, Mongoose Versus Cobra the latest. The success of these places in Houston makes me think it can be successful in other major markets like FW as well. I wish your friend luck cause it is not easy.
