Is it frowned upon to post your recipes up here and look for feedback/constructive criticism? I've definitely seen it before but not all that often...Just curious because I need feedback. I didn't know if was common here or if there are other sites where this is more acceptable.
Happens all the time and is generally welcome. Just use an informative title like "Looking for feedback on American IPA recipe" and anyone interested will respond and anyone who doesn't like dealing with recipe feedback posts can ignore.
Perfectly fine, normal and acceptable. Edit: just give us some info about your goals, flavour, aroma, etc... that you expect from the beer. That gives better feedback generally.
Read more threads. Tons of recipes. In fact, often a good answer to a question can't be properly answered without posting the recipe.
Please say something about what you want your beer to taste like or what you're trying to achieve, so that you don't get 101 recipe critiques that happen to look exactly like the respondents' own favorite recipes.
Message to the OP: Please post your recipe for critique. What is extremely helpful, beyond the recipe itself, is some indication of what you are looking for in the recipe in question. For example, CBlck85 posted yesterday: “Hey guys, looking for a little feedback on a robust porter recipe. Looking for something along the line of GLBC Edmund Fitzgerald.” Knowing that he is looking to brew a beer like Edmund Fitzgerald really helps posters to ‘focus’ their responses. Cheers!
LOL and you will save HB42 the time it takes to ask, What do you want the beer to taste like? As an aside, there should be stickys that say 1) Read How To Brew 2) What do you want the beer to taste like? 3) Star san foam is ok. etc. etc.
4) Beer can take up to 72 hours *gasp* to start fermenting, your beer is OK Do we have stickies on this forum? Can we make a sticky thread answering all of these questions? It would be extremely helpful and maybe reduce the amount of those type of questions.
I started to gather something along these lines before the changeover but it never got any traction. I think the best resource would perhaps be a post similar to alewatchers trading tips? Anybody got a homebrew blog? It seems as though the bros are not too big on stickies (for understandable reasons).
Also state your fermentation process/equipment. A recipe is only as good as the fermentation. Do you use a wet bath, what's ambient temp? Do you havea single/dual stage controller etc...
