Forum Upgrade Log (2014)

We just completed a major, unscheduled forum upgrade that includes numerous performance improvements, bug fixes, and new features. Many of the new features are on the admin side, but we now have:

• Multi-quote
• Google+/Twitter registration; which we're looking to enable along with Facebook
• Editor toolbar updates/improvements
• Ability to create our own BB code; we're currently exploring this

... to name a few.

We just successfully applied a significant update to the forum system that resolves numerous of bugs/issues and increases the stability of the site.

Between 10pm and 12am MST tonight I'll be applying an update to the forums that will fix a numerous of bugs/issues and increase the stability of the site. During this time certain portions of the site will be unusable.

I expect the process to take no more than an hour.

I just applied an update to the forum that fixed numerous bugs and issues, as well as increased the overall stability of the site.

Also, the "Log out" link in the main navigation doesn't take you to a confirmation page anymore. It just logs you out now.

 

Between 12 midnight and 2am MDT, I'll be applying an update to our forums that will addresses some security vulnerabilities and increase the overall stability of the site. Nothing major, but I'd like to apply the update soon than later.

I'll post an update upon completion, but during the process certain sections of the site will be unusable.

I'll be applying a major update to the forums starting at midnight MDT, which includes numerous bug fixes and new features. The vast majority of this update improves performance and moderation/admin tasks, however, here are some of the updates that users will notice.

• Selective quoting (highlight to quote only part of a post when replying)
• Online status indicator (green corner on avatars) when viewing messages (similar to our pre-2012 forums)
• Better polls
• Bulk watch thread management
• Most recent profile posts displayed on main Forums page sidebar
• New Posts (under Forums) split into new posts (forum) and new profile posts tabs
• Moderators now have the option to send a notification/reason to thread authors
• Moderators can now ban users from threads; handy for those who don't know when to walk away

The process will take roughly 2 hours to complete. During this time certain parts of the site will be inaccessible.

I'll post an update once the process is complete.

Sometime between 10pm and 12 midnight MDT tonight, I'll be applying an update to our community forums that fixes a number of bugs and issues, as well as increasing the overall stability of the site. Much of this impacts the backend, but here are some that might impact or benefit some users:

• When a user has received warnings that results in a temporary ban, the ban expiration date will now be calculated across the active warnings and displayed to the user. Very few have to worry about this, but it should cut down on some confusion and the urge to created multiple accounts.
• Fixed numerous iOS8 issues.
• Fixed numerous rich / text editor issues.
• Fixed numerous visual elements.

The process should take roughly 1-2 hours, during which portions of the site will be unusable.

If you were wondering why the forums and log in were down for a bit ... I just wrapped up applying an update to the forums that fixes a number of bugs and issues, and increases the stability of the site.
