I’ve seen this with “craft beers” too.

I should add that I meant “artificial coloring” specifically.

Many brown liquors are "artifically colored", too.

I like the Green can better, the special bitter is pretty good for what it is.

You still get the one labelled Bitter vs Premium Ale?

Well.. It's been a long time since I've looked. But last time I checked it was Special Bitter.

That's apparently the case today, but in the 1970s and 1980s during it's rise to become one of the largest selling imported beers in the US - in the Top 10 by the 80s at #8 - and in many other countries (the UK in particular), it was the #1 selling beer in Australia, according to this snip from an '84 ad that ran in several national papers.

Not too unusual - in the US, there are many beers that were among the best-selling domestic brands in the 80s that are now all but dead - Michelob (over 8m bbl.) or Old Milwaukee (5m bbl.). Last figures I saw for Mich in the 2010s was around 140k bbl. and OM was under 500k bbl. As late as 1978 Schlitz Beer sold over 15m bbl/yr.

Ahh the amber nectar. Fosters was definitely the lower cost tinny of choice at uni (along with Carling). When I moved to the US in my mid-20’s I was mildly impressed/disgusted to see it in those monster cans.

Is the question a purely academic one? I mean yes yes of course drink what you like - but even if macro lager is your thing, this is really scraping the bottom of the barrel / oil can.

You'll be hard-pressed to find it in Australia.

Fosters and Rolling Rock ( I add randomly) ought to be prosecutable offenses against the taste buds

I was on a cruise last year, and it took forever to get a drink, so I resorted to Fosters oil cans so I got more bang for my buck with the drink package between drinks. It did the trick and tastes like ass. That's the best I can say about Fosters.

Exactly. Fosters was even hard to pretend to like. It had an interesting methane edge when warming, adding to the complexity......

If you took a high school shop class in the 80's, chances are you turned one into a sweet lamp for a class project.

Fosters make my face very hot. My friend drinks the green can exclusively. It tastes like bitter rust.
