Please tell me this is some sort of sick, tasteless joke.

I'm not lying - most beers the BA's love are unbalanced (however, most are still good).

Nope. I poured all four into a large, 50+ oz. mug and attempted to drink them all (I'm a very big guy, 6'2'', 230 LB). After finishing about 10 oz., I poured out the rest due to beer suckage.

Why would you ever do such a thing? Try one, if you don't like it, trade the rest away or give it away. I would have given you some good local beers for some of those since I can't get Founders. Drain-pouring one beer, I can semi-see. Drain-pouring three? Especially from a brewery as good as Founders?

By the way, what does a 50 oz mug look like? That's almost a 2 liter bottle of soda.

Red's Rye. That's the stuff! Spicy, hoppy, and balanced. It's probably the beer most responsible for my interest in craft beer.

But you can't go wrong with anything from Founder's. The three you've been offered so far are big winners, but in my experience anything they brew is high quality, so when your local store puts a new Founder's style on the shelf, grab it! (That goes double if you see "Double Trouble.")

By the way, anyone know if they offer brewery tours yet? Several years ago, we vacationed in western Michigan (amazing beaches!), and I tried to tour the brewery in Grand Rapids--but they didn't offer tours!

Imagine a large pitcher - it's simply a large mug that can accommodate a large volume of fluid.

I had Dirty Bastard and loved it. Therefore, I thought Backwoods Bastard - being DB's barrel-aged relative - would be excellent. Boy, was I wrong. Let me put it to you this way: I hated that beer more than Natural Ice. Since I had already poured all four into the mug, there was nothing else I could do - upon disliking it - but pour it out.

As I said, you're entitled to your wrong opinion.

And just as before, your opinion that it is unbalanced is also just that, and opinion. Not a fact. I find it to be very well balanced, and obviously, to each their own.

I kid here, but the OP should probably listen to the vast majority of the rest if us and give it a shot, not "avoid Backwoods Bastard at all costs" as you suggest, as your opinion is the minority, and we should let the OP formulate his own opinion.

Even if you were Andre the Giant size it wouldn't make sense to do this unless you have had a beer before and knew you liked it. To save from future travesties, please stop this practice.

Backwoods Bastard is Bourbon brew heaven, I'd buy by the case if it were still around.

You poured all 4 12 ounce bottles of a 10.2% alcohol beer into one mug with the intention of drinking them all? Wow, that's scary enough alone, but then you decide to drainpour them? I am at a loss for words.

I just found 2 cases of Breakfast Stout with an 11/25/11 bottle date. I bought them both. How does this beer cellar? Was it a good call buying them this late still at a beer distributor sitting on the floor? How long can it be cellared?

Cellaring FBS should not ever be a problem. The only problem with putting it away is the coffee flavors fall off fast leaving you with a much stronger chocolate note at least this has been my experience. Aged or not I still find it to be delicious just not the same beer with age.

You poured 48 ounces of an intensely flavored high alcohol beer into a mug, intending to drink the whole thing yourself in a short period of time, and you're worried about balance? This is becoming surreal. I feel a tug on my leg. I'm beginning to lose my balance.

I was at a loss when you stated, "you're entitled to your opinion...but it is wrong" (paraphrase). As if someone's opinion on the quality of a particular beverage could be 'wrong'. lol.

I agree that the OP should probably listen to everyone's opinion - I never said he shouldn't. I even said, "...in my humble opinion," to indicate that I did not speak for the majority of people.

Oh well, to each his own. I still think it's an unbalanced mess.

Balance has nothing to do with the volume one intends to drink. I could've poured 2 nano oz. and determined that this particular beer was unbalanced. lol.

Nothing scary about drinking a large volume of liquid, my friend, especially beer. If it had been cognac or bourbon, however...

Understood, please understand I'm just playing around. I happened to hate Dirty Bastard, so go figure. Of course your opinion isn't wrong, I just disagree with it.

    Cheers!
