Hello everyone, I'm new around here and I wanted to get an opinion on these beers. I found these old beers inside an old minibar my grandfather had in storage. They all seem to have a late 90s date. Was wondering if any of these are worth collecting or have any sort of value..
Defiantly! The mini bar was put in storage I believe somewhere around 2003. I doubt they've seen any sort of daylight for a very long time.
you might want to take the question over to the breweriana forum to see what those folks think. I wouldn't drink any except for the sake of science
Right thanks! Yeah I'd be a little concerned tasting them. They seem okay nothing floating inside some of them but I probably wouldn't taste them. The caps on some of them have a little bit of surface rust.
They are definitely cool and I'd imagine at least some of them would be desirable to some of the beer paraphernalia collectors out there
Your grandfather had a varied taste, and it's almost like he collected one of every popular style. Unfortunately beer doesn't increase in value like fine wines, and all of those beers have likely become very oxidized by now. You can taste them without concern for illness, but it's not likely it will be a very good taste experience. Bottle collectors and cap collectors might have some interest, but there's not much value beyond a few bucks. Check around online to see if there are any brewerania clubs or shows near you and check with those collectors for any interest. Check back with this thread occasionally in case anyone responds to your post. If you open the bottles, put a quarter on top of the cap to help prevent any creasing/bending. A closed-loop opener along with a quarter works best to minimize damage instead of a church key.
Right, Thanks I'll defiantly give that a try. If they aren't worth so much most likely I'll probably just keep them around as display or something. They are pretty cool at the end of the day.
Wow, pretty cool find. I wouldn't drink any of them now, but there are some names I have not heard in a long time. A long time indeed. Devil Mountain was one of my go-tos in college. Especially their oatmeal stout, but that 5 Malt was in regular rotation as well (yeah, I drank craft even at that point.)
Yeah, that was a strange deal, now mostly forgotten today when "faux craft" and "crafty" brands and ex-craft breweries owned by AB, MC or Constellation are common. Of course, BBC had done something similar with their "Oregon Originals/Oregon Beer & Ale Co." brands, and continue to do it with wholly-owned subsidiaries - Traveler Beer Co., the Angel City Brewery, the Concrete Beach Brewery and the Coney Island Brewing Co.
That was way before I had any idea about ownership and such of beers - just knew it didn't say Bud, Miller or Coors, much less any of the other crap beers that were common - the unofficial beer of my college was Natural Light Ice. I had read that they had been sold later on, and someone in the Midwest was trying to revive the name, but that was in the early 2ks, several years later. I turned 21 in '96, so it was 97 and 98 I was getting it.
I just found a heavy brown embossed bottle from Fox Deluxe Brewery. I was raking the lake when I found it and it is in perfect condition. Brewery closed in 1962 so, its been there a long time. Now if I could just figure out how to post photos....
You need to host a photo. Unless something has changed, IMGUR works well. Then you just cut and past the photo link and place it in your post and it will show up as a photo once the message is posted.
I'm not sure if those hold any value but they are defiantly cool! If I ever thought that I would have a home bar are even a dedicated beer fridge I would hang onto them for display purposes.
