Weird as I got a ton of oak, bourbon and maple flavor from it. I thought the alcohol was hidden really well too. It was my first beer of the day Saturday too, so my pallet definitely wasn't fatigued.

I didn't really let it get warm but I got no barrel at all, probably was too cold. also the abv was masterfully hidden.

I feel sorry for you because there are so many better barleywines out there. I.e CEntral Waters BBB, Nemesis, Arctic Devil. BANE, Bligh's, King Henry, Kuhnhenn, MOAS to name a few. AND, if your on BA you ARE a beer snob!

You mean the American Barleywine that has no barrel notes but the barrel price tag?

How is no one picking up barrel? Is this some joke or something? Or is it just people complaining For the sake of complaining?

I got a lot of citrus flavors and hops, sweet amber and caramel malts, but no bourbon, vanilla etc. it was only 15% barrel aged though correct?

I know geographical location in relation to a brewery doesn't matter, but I would like to take the time to say fuck the complainers, as most of you vocal, entitled bastards are from Chicago.
Was I expecting a lot more and wound up underwhelmed? Yes. But if you don't like it, put up a shit review and move on. For God sakes people, you overreact like Founder's just walked up and slapped your baby.

First, if you are here your right..We are snobs..But not the arrogant one..Second, Kuhnhenn's is my favorite brewery and Bolt Cutter is better than Kuhnhenn American Barleywine..I like it better than Nemesis also. The others you mentioned I have not had yet. I like it better than Three Floyds Behemoth as well. To each their own my friend. Cheers and happy Thanksgiving!

It seems like many people were expecting this beer to rival King Henry etc. Bolt Cutter is a completely different beast and amazing in its own ways. Comparing it to barrel forward and far maltier barleywines will result in disappointment and I feel like some people are doing that both consciously and subconsciously. Bolt Cutter is far different from the majority of the big barrel aged barleywines we have all been drinking lately and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Exactly how I feel. I was expecting a maltier, thicker, and more barrel forward barleywine, especially at 15%. Am I bit disappointed with it? Yes. Am I excited to see how it develops over time? Definitely. It seems like a great beer to hold onto and see what happens when the hops start to fade.

It's a great beer, I was just expecting something a bit different.
