I only see three reviews for Frangelic Mountain Brown but it sounds awesome.

Now make FMB a Monday release and I will do back-flips of joy (not really because I'd smash my head open)

Great beer! I don't remember it being under their "specialty" category at the taproom. If my memory is correct, this will be a first for the Backstage.

Glad I had this at the tap room. Its epic. Now I don't have to deal with the madhouse that is finding a bottle.

You think having it at the tap room was enough? I thought it amazing - and even better than KBS. I really hope it's a monday release like CBH and there isn't much hype.

edit: Hell, you only live an 45 minutes away from Founders. Doesn't get much easier to find bottles if you really wanted to.

Better than KBS? That is some high praise. I had it on tap in early April and was not overly impressed. It was good, but not special. I actually preferred Frangelic Porter.

The madhouse doesn't limit itself to distance in miles or minutes

I'll actually be in Michigan on the 2nd, though way up north in Frankfort. Any thoughts on where to look within a 50-mile radius of Traverse City?

Awesome, can't wait to try this. The description of this beer sounds just fantastic to me. I wonder, do they make a barrel aged version of this beauty? A bourbon aged hazelnut coffee brown ale might just bring me to tears.

Anyone else REALLY excited to see what Backstage beer they release as a 15th Anniversary Celebration this fall?

It is a interesting beer and quite tasty but the bottle markup is going to be rough. I filled a handful of growlers up of this for $16 a pop and now I am supposed to pay $18 for a 750ml bottle of a coffee-based beer that will probably not age very well. A little disappointed in this...wish they just kegged all of that and kept it on tap at the brewpub for the rest of the year.

It all depends on the distributor and when they send it out. Will be available around Grand Rapids on Monday but could be available in TC any day that week. I used to live in Lansing and some stores would get their shipment on Tuesday and others on Thursday or Friday. I would check the Friday before to see if they have it already and are just waiting to sell it on Monday. If not, just ask when their Founders shipment will come in for the week...most people will know the day.

Sweet, looks like the brewer didn't lie to me. Luckily I'll be camping an hour away so that'll be a nice diversion during the trip.

I don't know how it is up there but if its like down here it'll probably be gone before it even hits the sheves. If I were you Id find a store or 2 or 4, give them a call and get on a list if you want any chance at getting a bottle.

As with the above post, this is very helpful from a timing/tactics perspective. Can anyone even recommend good stores up that way? I've been going up there since I was a baby, and I don't know of good beer stores up there (the Jolly Pumpkin cafe being an obvious exception).

Edit: Looks like Jack's and Beverage Company. Any other thoughts? I'd go as far south as Manistee...

I'm much farther south, so I cant help you there, but I'm sure there are are good places up there. For sure get on a list though. Its a madhouse down this way. I was not on a list for Blushing Monk, kinda before I knew any of this was going on, Not on a list for CBS and not on a list for last years KBS. I didnt get any.

I got on a list with 4 stores, 3 of which would only sell me a bottle, for KBS and I got one 4 pack and 1 bottle. I wonder how early you can get on a list lol.
