Big Luscious and Dissenter were extremely forgettable. I still love Blushing Monk, I just think they made way more of it and now people don't really think it is that special. Would love to see CBH again as well. Bolt Cutter, Repute and Mango were all excellent as well in my opinion. I would have loved to see the Bourbon Barrel Red's Rye (Jon's Not Here) for a backstage. I had that when I was at Founders a few years ago and it was superb. Also, Lizard of Koz that was on at Black Party this year or Panther Cub would have me jumping up and down. Bourbon Barrel Aged Blueberry Imperial Stout, it honestly rivaled CBS for the best beer at Black Party. Well let's hope for something great later in the year.

More like folks who have watched the legend that is Founders become another brewery charging too much for average beers. If you are trying to say we should give them a pass because of how good they were, and because we are BA's, well, no company gets a pass here, we speak our opinions, and no company gets to rest on their laurels. Especially when their regular lineup is not so good as it once was.

If Founders was owned by ABInBev, folks would be saying how ABI wrecked the company, and pointing out the decline, and no one, probably you included, would be arguing against. Just my .02.

Jaded is not the term to describe folks who expect the same quality or better. Disappointed and unwilling to pay big bucks, yet again, describes it better. Heady Topper costs significantly less than this beer, even if this beer is the same quality as Heady, and I hope it is, it STILL costs too much.

I agreed that this is not very experimental, but I like a good Imperial Red so I'm sure I'll pick up one or two to try and then watch them sadly fade on the shelf along with everyone else.

I think the Dissenter price is a major reason it is still sitting on shelves. It was a very good beer. This one seems more reasonably priced.

If this is the same beer as Cheef IPA (as was mentioned in another thread), then it would fit the Backstage Series mission. Cheef IPA has gotten high ratings while it's been on at the taproom.

    From the website:
The Backstage Series brings some of our most sought-after and experimental taproom beers to a much larger audience.

Agreed. Meanwhile an old world brewery such as St Bernardus is putting out an apple brandy barrel aged quad that sounds amazing. For worse and better both breweries have surprised me today

BA FIS, BA Curmudgeon ("better half"), BA Porter, BA FBS + Rubaeus blended, BA Rubaeus, BA Devil Dancer (=Bolt Cutter), BA Blushing Monk.

Before getting cut down for my obvious common theme here, I never buy Backstage beers because they are so high $/oz for styles that are frankly, available from other brewers in 4 or even 6pk at the Backstage 25.4oz price. Dissenter would be a go to @$10/4pk. They can of course do whatever they want, but based on how much sits in VA+DC, it appears they are asking too much for what they are offering.

Edit: Lacto-Rubaeus while we're at it!

Bout time a hoppy red is in the mix. When done right they are one of my favorite styles. If this is anything like Bell's This One Goes Till Eleven than I am in.

Another boring release in the Backstage Series. Was this even ever tested in the tap room under another name? I don't think so...

I am also hoping this is the same beer as Cheef IPA. That was one damn great beer. I shared a growler with two buddies and all three of us loved it.

I don't have a problem with this style of beer being in their Backstage Series. My only criticism of BS is that every bottle is priced $3 to $5 higher than what it should be. That is the only reason why they sit on shelves.

Heady Topper is priced below market value, given demand is clearly higher than supply. If someone can brew the same quality, there's nothing wrong with charging what the market will bear. That said, this is still probably overpriced.

I am really tired of folks telling other folks who are making a fortune, and doing it the way they want to do it, they are doing it all wrong, and their prices are all wrong.

Heady is priced where Mr. Kimmich believes it should be, his business model works, and his customers are all happy, your opinion notwithstanding.

Priced below market value, you say? Market value? I am willing to apologize for my response if this is a joke, and I don't get it. Otherwise, I will just give my opinion that you don't know what you are talking about.

I did not say he is doing anything wrong. I think his economic underpricing is great. What's wrong is to hold other people to a standard of selling any product for less than what people are eager to pay.

Really? That assumes you know what the market conditions will be in the future, since he needs to consider that in his pricing today? How do you know this?

    I agree with that.

I loved Dissenter, probably my favorite IPL I have tried, but I never bought a bottle of it because of the price point. Drank it whenever I found it on tap though.

As for this one,it sounds great. That said, this post about sums it up.

I'll grab some if I come across it on tap for sure though.
