Appears it just won gold in the Imperial Red category at GABF. I was kind of confused because Fat Head's won a gold for Bone Head too, but I guess there is a "Double Red" category. Not sure how they are different styles, but both deserving anyway from my experience with hoppy reds.

I loved it. It was a nice treat for this California girl!

    Good beer--Red's on roids.

Problem with this series was they shot their wad with CBS in the beginning (2011) and lots have been largely unsatisfied with what followed. That's too bad--the beers have been worth a try.

I finally learned the meaning of the beer word "dank". From a guy weaned on Jai Alai, this stuff needs to be experienced. One bomber was enough, but I'm glad I had one. Powerful.

As with IPAs, red ales lose their freshness sooner than later. And that is very expensive for what it is. Wait until spring and get a $65 case (or two) of Sunday Morning Stout

I had the other night at the Mule Bar in Winooski VT. It was very good.

I was wondering the same thing, so I went and looked it up. Both style descriptions are pretty much identical, but the main difference is the ABV. Double red is 6.1-7.9%. Imperial red is 8.0-10.6%. Both of the other Double Red ale winners fit the ABV, but Bone Head doesn't at 9.4%.

Had a bottle Sunday. Very good Imperial Red, but would be nice if they had made this a seasonal beer and done something a bit more 'exotic' for the Backstage series.

Good beer but agree that a Backstage series release should be better than a solid Imperial Red. Would have been happier with this released in a 4 pack. Probably why there's still a bunch sitting on the shelves. Something aged in wine barrels would have been nice.
