I agree with this. CW BBSA is very good but not as good as backwoods bastard. It is very easy to get in wisconsin though. It is still on the shelves. Last year where I bought BB there was a 1 4-pack limit. It was gone in a day.

Edit: and a side by side is in order... 2012 BB, 2013 BB, and a CW BBSA.

Backwoods Bastard is fantastic. I think Wulver trumps it by the slightest of margins...but it will be interesting to compare Wulver to both a 2012 and 2013 Backwoods next month.

I actually prefer Central Waters BBSA for two reasons:
    1) You don't have to fight Chicago beer nerds to buy a 4-pack and can actually buy the beer by the 4-pack.
    2) Backwoods Bastard, though good, is so Bourbon heavy I'd rather spend my money / time on Bourbon itself.

Those two points compound one another to the point that I just ignore the Backwoods Bastard release every year.

Backwoods is another great beer that gets me through the winter. Fresh or aged makes no difference to me and the last few years I have been lucky to have one that can even get close to a year of age in my house. Really looking forward to seeing this one hit the shelves again.

I'd agree with this statement. I also plan on doing the same cause got a 4-pk of CW BBSA when I was in Madison over Labor Day. Just need to get the FBB to taste side-by-side. I was going to do '12 FBB, but had one last night and it didn't age that great. Still a good beer, but a shell of it's former "fresh" self.

SEE!? It doesn't hold up for a year... I think it really is best towards the end of winter.

IMO CW BBSA is more Bourbon heavy compared to FBB.

Wulver tastes delicious, but it gives me a terrible headache. I can't even finish 12oz without being immediately hung over. So, I'd like to try Backwoods Bastard to see if it does the same thing to me, and how the taste compares.

imo wulver isn't in the same league as BB, I thought it was pretty terrible.

different strokes... care to elaborate on how is much better? I can't really see anything better about it. BB is much more drinkable, smell is more intense, and taste are much more balanced.

I'll take a stab, as someone who loves them both....

From Backwoods, I get more barrel/wood flavor and it is thinner by comparison (or more drinkable if you prefer?).
Wulver is more bourbon forward and a thicker, heartier experience.

Again, for me it’s 1A vs. 1B scenario.

I totally agree, but to me wulver is just too thick, syprupy and bourbon foward to enjoy, its like drinking bourbon straight up with no beer in it.

That was my experience as well. Though, while I found it to be delicious, it was hard for me to put down. My girlfriend actually loves the stuff, but not the price. XD

EDIT: That said, Wulver is over $6 a bottle in Cbus, what's the price point of Backwoods Bastard?

after re reading this I should have mentioned, the beer itself is alright I guess, but for the price it was totally not worth it. you can buy 2 bottles of BB for the price of 1 bottle of wulver...

Seems to me that BB was around $14 per a 4-pack last year.
