I liked dankwood, grabbed this yesterday and had one late that nite, early this morning. I am going to give it another go, but it is big on rum, and thinking now I don't like rum in my beer. It is hot, and something about rum in beer gives me a somewhat subconscious fusel taste, until I tell myself it is just rum. I should just stay away from rum barrels, my worst review on this site is Piraat aged in rum barrels, but in all fairness something was wrong with that beer.

I enjoyed this more than Dankwood. Interesting flavors and heavy on the Rum for sure but not as "complex" as I would have thought but for me that was a good thing...just a straightforward enjoyable big beer.

If you're not a rum or coconut fan I would not recommend, if you are you will enjoy this.

Bought a four pack of this yesterday. Got through half a bottle. I love IPAs but this was rough. Really rough

Have enjoyed all of the barrel series so far except DKML and this. Overall that is a good track record, so keep em coming Founders...and seriously please bottle BA Sumatra.

Tastes better than I expected. Something like a Rum Barrel Blonde Barleywine.

This stuff is pretty vile. On draft it was drinkable, but I had a CBS and 2 KBS before so that may have clouded my judgement. Picked up a 4 yesterday. First beer that I ever poured in the sink before finishing. Note to self, Rum Barrel anything is not for me.

I just picked up some pineapple juice to mix with my final 3 bottles. Can't just drain pour them at that price point.

Don't judge rum barrel aged stuff by this beer. Give Pirate Bomb a try and you'll see just how amazing rum barrels can be.

This still hasn't arrived in South Dakota. We usually get Founders releases when everyone else does, so wondering if we're getting it. Maybe they couldn't get many rum barrels...

They're both really good. One is the best rum barrel IPA & the other is the best rum barrel stout.

I'll take an RBA stout over a BBA stout any day.

I picked up a 4pk last Sunday in mid-MO. It was a perplexing beer for me. I found it had a sweet butter rum candy nose with some lingering tropical citrus. Lots of barrel character with soft citrus, melon and mango in the taste. Boozy for sure with a dry finish. I liked Dankwood a little better. I am a little concerned Barrel Runner won't age as well as the Dankwood. Dankwood has more of a barleywine vibe to me.

Finally got Barrel Runner here. Despite not really being an IPA fan, I like Barrel Runner. I like rum and sweeter beers, and the sweetness balanced the bitterness nicely. True IPA fans probably won't like it, but I do. Could use more rum though.

Better yet, just get a bottle of Barbancourt eight year old.

I'm a true IPA fan and love Barrel Runner, perhaps that's mainly due to me liking rum and expecting rum flavor with tropical mosaic hops. The haters on this seem to be disappointed that it tastes like rum whereas if it didn't taste like rum I'd be disappointed.

I had a Pirate bomb that was about a year old and completely agree, it was a coconut and vanilla explosion and was fantastic. I had a fresh one this year, and mostly only tasted coffee and peppers, no rum influence. Wish I let it age to see if it would become the beer I had the first time. Do you get it regularly enough to have a preference on aging or fresh?

I don't generally agree with the need to age beers, but Pirate Bomb is my favorite beer, and it is much better with at least six months age on it. Same with Pirate Noir. Aging seems to mute the coffee, allowing the rum to come to the forefront. I have some that should now be ripe, will crack one soon.
