Before the old forum went away, there was a thread about Founders, Bear Republic and Lagunitas coming to Maine in March. Does anyone have any more info about this? I have scoured the web and can't find anything.

My sources say that it is happening but running into some red tape. According to my sources "tells me that the Flounders and the Lagunitas are in fact coming into Maine but it will take quite a bit of time before we all see it. As of now their are planning on being self distributed and are not even licensed yet. As we all know, they will focus on Portland first and then slowly branch out. "

This is good news, but I wonder how fresh the beer from these three breweries will actually be once it makes it downeast. I know from experience that Lagunitas is not that great in NH.

I dont care how old the Founders is, Im just glad we are getting it. May have a little better availability up here for stuff that you never can find on the shelves in Boston without living on Twitter around release time.

considering l knife distributes them in ma, nh, and vt, my best guess is that they will start distributing in maine as well.

Competing distributors lie. Definitely not self distributed.

I think he was saying "they will be distributing through another company than ourselves" and that how she understood it to be. Either way. Welcome new beers.

True, you'll still taste the hype and rarity through the oxidation and staleness.

Because oxidation and staleness creep their way into beers after a few months... right? Unless it's an über hopped beer or one where the hops are sensitive, there shouldn't be too much of a problem. Also, last time I checked, none of the 3 breweries are all that rare or overly hyped, except for maybe Founders with KBS and CBS. If you really wanted them, you could drive to NH or MA and get them very easily except for maybe the 2 I mentioned above. It's simply the ease of not having to do that any more when they get here that makes it convenient and much easier to have access to more great beer. And who doesn't want that?

I am so disappointed in this comment. Brewers, distributers, and retailers all see the content on this website. Perpetuated the nonchalant attitude towards freshness is counterproductive to the good fight many put A LOT of effort in to; providing higher quality product for all.

Further more, fewer choices generally means higher turnover and fresher product. More competition could compromise overall freshness selection.

    I do like Founders though.

Ofcourse I want beers such as IPAs as fresh as possible but personally for me for the Founders- all I really care about is the stouts and barleywines which being old doesnt really matter too much. Guess I should have explained the context of that.

Actually they do, depending on how much care the brewer put into limiting oxygen during brewing, racking, filtering (if filtration is used) and bottling. There are a lot of vectors for oxygen pickup, and I'm sure Founders does a great job at limiting these but no brewery is perfect. I'm a big fan of Founders Porter and Imperial Stout, so I hope they make it to us relatively fresh. Cheers

Lagunitas is expanding distribution to 49 states (only TN is left out) according to BeerPulse and Shanken News Daily. I'm glad their beers are coming, I love Lucky 13.

Spotted some new (to Maine) breweries at RSVP in Portland today: Green Flash, Sixpoint, and Goose Island.

Goose Island has long been in the works, and it makes lots of sense considering the new management. Green Flash I'd heard about two weeks ago, Thursday was suppose to be the first day. Sixpoint is a surprise, but with Sierra cans I'm doubting they will get of my money, not unless they start brewing it at Sixpoint.

Goose Island brewed in Chicago or Portsmouth, NH? I heard rumors that the stuff is getting contract brewed at Red Hook, as per the whole AB cabal.
