Hopefully Founders can right the ship with this Backstage series and get it back on track. Dissenter was a good beer but $15 for an IPL was a lot to ask for a style that is not that popular. The price tag didn't bother me so much as the fact that it really wasn't that special--not really pushing the bounds of anything and not something I had the least interest in pursuing. Bottles still in Charlotte.

It really isn't about price for me but the concept has lost its luster. I used to check the site to see when they added the shadow for the next Backstage release then when it was named--no more. It seems they are determined to "do it their way" but in doing it their way they have "lost their way" a bit. I am a big Founders fan so want this to succeed. CBS every time --no. Something I have to like every time--no. Something a bit different, well constructed and what you would consider a big beer and worthy of the name special release--YES.

That is because it just wasn't anything special.

I find most Founders beers absolutely delicious. This just didn't do it for me.

That said, I think some age would do it well. It typically does for the "fruity" stouts.

I love Founders, but when I saw this priced at $16.99 at my local WF I opted to pick up a Brooklyn Black Ops for $19.99. I might pick up a bottle eventually, but with so many great beers coming out this time of year that price point makes it less desirable for me.

A cashier at Founders told you this!? That's unfortunate, because I don't see how this can be a blend that includes FBS since coffee it's part of the description. I can't help but wonder if the cashier either 1) didn't have a clue what they were talking about, or 2) was attempting to describe the flavors by using two readily available comparisons and gave the wrong impression.

This sounds much more realistic. I don't think Founders would release a blend without identifying it as one.

Perhaps, the local distributor of Founders screwed up and is selling it for too little because $14.99 would be a huge markup on the bottle cost here

I wonder if they were blowing out old dissenter (same sku?) and forgot to reprice Lushious. Must investigate tomorrow :sunglasses:

Dear lord, I hope not. That would be quite devious to mix 2 readily available beers and sell it for $15/bottle.
I could do that myself. This release was a joke. I mean really, a stout that doesn't even break 8% alcohol for
almost $8 a pour. So what Founders is saying is, this beer is worth more than KBS? Never have seen or bought
KBS for more than $5-6/bottle (other than post-market rip-offs)....or a draft pour! Problem is, they know peopl
are crazy enough to buy it...me being one of those people!

Picked up two bottles locally for 11.99 each. Hopefully open one tonight. Chocolate covered raspberries sounds good to me.

Drank one last night. It was alright, but definitely not worth the price tag. Too sweet and the raspberry flavor was a bit medicinal.

This is coming from someone that thought Dissenter and Sweet Repute were worth the money.

Ha. Same for me, I didn't look at the receipt post purchase, from BK WF.

Had it on Sunday thought it was good, but I would recommend sharing, as I did. Pretty tough to drink a whole bottle as it is pretty sweet.

It's Lushious btw. I'll grab a bottle, if I see it for under $15.

Had it on draft this past weekend. I like it, but it definitely kicks you in the face with sweetness at first. Great dessert beer, and I'll hunt down a bottle to sit on it for a bit to see how it changes.

Just cracked the first bottle...didn't expect it to be so sweet. I think your right, I'll sit on the second bottle for a while and hopefully some of the sweetness subsides.....

I'm am not a fan of fruit in stouts, but we have this on tap where I work and I was extremely surprised at how good it was. I mean it's Founder's so how could it not be. It is sweet, but the stout is so smooth and creamy it was just such a great dessert beer. Definitely worth getting.

Saw it for 19.99 and had to pass. Hoping the other local store gets some soon at a better price point, because I'm intrigued to give this one a go.

People CRACK me up.. Won't pay 12-15$ for a bomber of a once brewed beer, but they'll pay 20-25$ for some of the 12oz Avery beers? Oh god don't charge me 9$ for a 12oz KBS.....
