Anyone ever been to one? What type of beers should I expect? Founders said "it'd be worth my 3 hour drive" naturally. Any positive helpful non cynical comments would be appreciated.
Pretty simple search brings up last year's thread, worth a read for tons of info: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/the-official-founders-black-party-thread.13531/
Following up on steebo's response above, at this point it's a bit of a toss-up. Too many questions abound - timed taps late in the day? 'Special' taps throughout the day? Variants? From the MI Winter Beer Festival I was fortunate enough to get behind the Founders table with the help of one of the co-owners and they had a fifth filled with KBS that had gone sour. (Picture below) They had no intent to tap it because "unlike other breweries, we don't do that" but tapping something like that at the Black Party would be quite interesting...
They did tap CBS last year, but later in the evening. We had no trouble getting it, so if you haven't had it, or love it and would like to have it again, then it's probably worth it. I enjoyed it last year and I'm going again this year. So we'll see if it's as good the 2nd time around. Didn't seem like they put a lot of different stuff up through the night, but rather had a set tap list to start out and threw a couple things in later. Hate that CBS is tapped after you're are already too ripped to even taste it though...
