Founders Breakfast Stout Breakfast

Been to the last 5 and going this year. Correct, they make no promises of special tappings, but its been hit or miss the last few years. Bear with me, memory is foggy from these events. Last year, they had a firkin of double chocolate/coffee, and their may have been a variant. Two years ago, I believe there were no special beers on tap. I think the best was three years ago, the year we got yellow mugs. They had vanilla FBS, hazelnut FBS, FBS on nitro, and perhaps another variant. I'm hoping the break out another firkin of double coffee/chocolate with ancho chilies that they had last month. I think they even had KBS one year, may have been 2009. I wouldn't expect that to happen ever again.

This event is a blast. You get a limited edition coffee mug and a free pour of a class one beer (in case you're absolutely insane and don't like FBS). The food is always great, and its all you can eat. I'm interested to see how the expanded taproom handles the crowd. Not sure how many tickets were sold this year. It's been approx 200 in past years.

And yes, there are usually a few empty bottles lined up outside after you get in. Hope you have a great time. Maybe I'll see you there.

 

Dave, any word on who the band is this year? Really hope they bring back the mariachi!

 

Haven't heard who it will be. Yeah the mariachi band was great a couple years ago. It happened to be my buddy's birthday and they sang to him. Poor bastard was so embarrassed.

 

How was it this year? First time in a while I didn't go.

 

This was my first year, so I didn't have anything to compare it to.

Plenty of room with the expanded seating.

The coffee cup of FBS on arrival was a nice touch.

Food was good, but nothing spectacular. (Grits, Biscuits and Sausage Gravy, French Toast, some sort of scrambled egg bake, potato wedges and a sweet peppers/onion sautee with some really really spicy sausage mixed in, plus a fresh fruit station.)

Just the regular beer board, no KBS or anything like that. Then again, the regular board has been pretty impressive lately.

A men's "a capella" group was the featured musical act.

We didn't get there early this time, so no line share stories to tell.

Not a bad event, but the Black Party is still my favorite.

Yeah, in like 18 minutes. I'll be curious to see how many more people they are packing in with the expansion(s).

Tell me they don't seat outside. That would be nuts. In years past, they've sold a ticket for each seat. I hope that doesn't mean they factored in the outdoor expansion. I wonder how many tickets they sold...

 

No reports on this? Did they make you sit outside in the rain/snow?
