The '12 is still very good, but almost everyone that has done a blind test has preferred the '11. Unless we are lying about the blind part this isn't paranoia. My wife was able to pick up the difference right away.

I agree with the OP on this one. Something is different this year. It seems thinner with MUCH less coffee to me. Either it has changed or my palate has. I just remember being blown away when I had it 2 years ago and even loved it last year. This year, I'm just not feeling it. Glad I only bought 1 four pack. Terrapin Wake N Bake is better anyway!!

Did a side-by-side. The 2012 was definitely thinner and had the stronger coffee profile (not surprisingly). Fortunately, it didn't taste like artificially flavored Dunkin Donuts coffee (like FMB). Overall, the 2011 is thicker, more chocolate-y, and more delicious IMO, but the 2012 was quite good.

The real question is... How does the 2015 batch taste?

Well, as luck would have it, I am pretttty good friends with Michael J Fox.

    He said it's infected.

It appears that anyone that has done a "blind" taste of 2011/2012 side by side has enjoyed the "aged" 2011 over a fresh 2012. I'm pretty disappointed that I won't be able to enjoy this as my standby coffee stout, but I will try a few more batches and see how they compare.

PS. - I checked the rest of the bottles in that 4 pack and they were all 8-6-12. Somehow the 8 rubbed off in just the right place to appear as a 9.

Had my 1st of the season and I am firmly in the camp of those saying it is different. Thinner mouthfeel and the bitter roast overwhelms the milk chocolate.

All the bottles I have are from 08.02.12. Does Founders continually brew new vats of FBS during the release window or is it a one and done production with enough to last the entire window (continually bottled during the release window)?

Have had a four pack of 8/1 so far and find that as it warms the chocolate comes through alot more.

Still waiting for this in NJ, and hoping this thread is like the X beer is not as hoppy as last year phenomenon. Perhaps since anyone drinking it now is having it fresh the coffee is stronger then remembered.

I got a four pack a few days ago and have already hammered down two of them. I'd say it's my favorite beer of all-time, SO FAR... though I couldn't drink them very often. Porters/stouts/etc. aren't the kind of beer I like to throw back over and over. Too heavy.

ANYWAY. Nope. No artificial taste here. Mine were bottled last week. :>

I'm not getting any artificial taste, but I did notice that the flavor seemed to drop off dramatically as it got colder. It really needs to be drank at a warmer temperature for all the flavors to come out; if you drink it straight out of the fridge you may be disappointed.

OP, I actually think the problem is you are drinking it too fresh. Seriously. Let the coffee fade a couple weeks... Balance city.

Someone owes me a dollar. You guys promised to pay me a buck every time someone posts that this year's version isn't quite as good as this year's.........

Beer just keep getting worse and worse....

Finally got it here in NJ, and loved it just as much as years past. Will keep it perma-stocked in the fridge for sure...plus waking up late on sunday's and enjoying breakfast stout to the morning nfl games is pure bliss. (will be even better with the real ref's back the league is embarrassing atm)

    I've now had 3 batches:

8-2-12: I found them to be on the thin side and lacking a little in flavor
8-15-12: Better than 8-2, but still on the thin side
9-6-12: Fantastic (and as good as last year)

Although I made fun of the thread originally as just being another one of those "better last year" threads. I have had a 4 pack from 8/2/12 that was on the thin side. Then I got some from 9/4 and it was perfect, creamy, thick and everything it has always been, so needless to say I went back and picked up some more from the 9/4 botteling.

This latest batch is not artificial tasting but it definitely has a thinner mouthfeel. I've done a side by side from an old batch and they are very different. But I will say that this newest batch is a bit smoother than last years as well.

I think I got more of a hazelnut flavor from this years, but I could be remembering it wrong. Plus Id recently had Frangelic.
